Damn I hope I'm not the only one who had no idea the Stones had done this tune.
.
Love it. The hand claps are a bit rough but Keith's early guitar work is pretty damn cool.

peace

Good song. Guess some of us don't know they did this song back on their 1st album unless we were born back then.

Peace.

It might have been done more impressive by others, but isn't it pure fun to see and hear
our boys venturing into this classic with so much energy?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I probably did say that but I'm open to change...smoking smiley I generally don't care for much of the early rock and roll like Buddy Holly and Elvis or even the Beatles pre-Rubber Soul. The early Chicago and Delta blues guys are the oldest stuff in my collection and I am indeed missing a huge chunk of stuff between them and Let It Bleed.

Guess I have that to look forward to, but I'm still sittin' on the fence. It'll take more than Suzie Q to get me to take the jump.

peace

Love the cha-cha style drums intro. Very old school Sunday Night At The London Palladium type showbiz sound that for those cats who remember that show.

But hey, just dig that fantastic Keith riff homing in on teenagers across the globe like some extra-terrestrial communication from a faraway galaxy. Get a load of that wild sound kids because you'll be hearing a lot more of that glorious driving beat that is starting to takeover the airwaves.

What a fantastic 1.50 seconds of pure, thrusting and lustful come on uttering from Mick's lips. It must have had girls everywhere quivering with excitement as he raucously bellows this love call.

If you wanna let people know what the savage, young Stones were like then this is as good a place as any to start. Pure magic.

It's ok I suppose but completely outclassed by CCR's brilliant cover.

Man, I had forgotten about that one. I love the "garage band" sound. Keith's intro reminds me of the beginning of an oldie called Psychotic Reaction by The Count Five.

The alternate version (with sound enhanced in this clip), with studio chatter including count in by Brian.

Heard today the sad news about the place in which this track was recorded - as was last week's "Surprise Surprise" as well, and seemingly at same session. Regent Sound Studio, and seemingly the whole "Tin Pan Alley" of London, Denmark Street is soon dead and gone. One important sight less to visit in London...

"Suzie Q" is not very memorable track from their second album, but I think it has aged well. Who can resist that youthful energy and dedication? It rocks, babe! The clapping sits there well, but it is The Glimmer boys shining there, especially Keith's guitar is mean and apt, including some of his best runs from the early days. I have never being ashamed one bit to introduce this version to my CCR fan friends.

Of course not, but how many of 'em liked it better than the amazing version CCR managed to pull off? The song was custom made for their swampy sound!

Well, none I guess, since the CCR version is so iconical (and for a good reason), but I think the strengthess of Stones version is its rocking, 'boy energetic' nature, being clearly different in compared both to CCR version as to the original Dale Hawkins one (I think CCR actually is more loyal to the original than the Stones). The 'feel' is different. Especially Jagger's vocals sound very original, 'Jaggerian', compared to almost any other "Suzie Q" interprators. Probably the Stones sound too busy for both CCR and Hawkins fan ears.

I love the song and I am also a fan of CCR,
but all those who fall from one orgasm into the next listening to CCR should give this a listen:

[www.wetransfer.com]

This is Quicksilver Messenger Service on Nov.6th, 1966 at the Fillmore,
predates the CCR version for one and a half year!

And thanks for the additional info Rockman!

Is there any old Blues or Rock'n'Roll song out there,
that you haven't got any of your priceless press clips for?cool smiley

I wish I could agree, but when it comes to ' Suzie Q ' and ' I put a spell on you ' Creedence versions is completely unbeatable, just as Stones version of ' I wanna be your man ' is compared to the original.

Might this be something?

Becky Dean, she was a gamblin' gal;
She winned de money an' she winned it fair.
Becky Dean, she was a gamblin' gal;
She winned de money, an' she winned it fair.

Becky Dean, she had her games on the groun',
She winned all the money the skinners laid down.
Becky Dean, she had her games on the groun',
She winned all the money the skinners laid down.

She started to hit one wid a singletree,
Might 'a' heared de rascal holl'in',
"Honey, doncha murder me."
She started to hit one wid a singletree,
Might 'a' heared de rascal holl'in',
"Honey, doncha murder me."

Becky Dean walked all de way f'om Eas' St. Louis,
When she didn' have but de one thin dime;
Didn' spen' it for whisky, honey, an' neither for wine,
She spent it all on "de sake of de man of mine."

This is the las' word that Becky Dean said,
"I love my baby when he's dead."
This is the las' word that Becky Dean said,
"I love my baby when he's dead."
