Don't get all the hating. I like it. They have done things that were a lot worse.
I would take this song over things like Hold Back or Where The Boys Go, anyday. At least on this song, they have a tune and a melody. On the aformentioned songs, they have nothing but sloppy attitudes.

A GREAT live tune. Dont like it at the first listenings on the ABB Album, but the live performance ( Hannover2006) was awesome!

I don't like cheesy overwrought power ballads as a species, and I'm sorry to find the Stones of all people lowering themselves to produce one, but there are worse examples in the world than Streets of Love, and it does work well in a stadium setting. I've no quarrel with people who enjoy it - it's just not for me.

To me "Streets of Love" is one of the weaker songs of the rather good A BIGGER BANG, such as the song emerges there. On the other hand, it contributes advantageously to the balance of songs on that album. More than a couple of other songs like "Driving Too Fast" and "She Saw Me Coming" which may sound somewhat too derivative for me of one type of Stones songs. And the live version of "Streets of Love" from Rome, that someone posted showed that the song had a greater potential than the album version. It was more or less a sheer delight for a time with little variation of setlists

I don't get all the put downs for this song. On the album it's ok.
Live, I think it's very good.

I would prefer anything from Barry Manilow over this. Or even Wayne Newton...

I wish both those guys would cover SHATTERED.

They have done a lot worse. Fool to Cry for example.

I totally agree. When my dog ((Cocoa (now deceased)) first heard that song, he was so distraught that I had to take em to the Vet. Hell, I needed help as well. Streets of Love & Fool to Cry should be arrested with no plea deal.

Love them both. Especially the lead interlude in SOL of the coda in FTC. Great tracks.

There is some nice stuff in both tracks, but it's a bit too over the top for me. The choruses are pretty infectuous, though...

Wow, you actually don't overly praise a crappy track .... still you give it too much credit, at least that was expected.

Not as horrible as you might want it to be. But for The Rolling Stones, it is one of their lowest points. It is basically a Mick Jagger solo song using the rest of the boys as backing musicians. It has a very sappy saccharine intro. The chorus is a bit better. But this is definitely not a song I would purposely put on. And I would never want to try to convert someone into liking The Rolling Stones with this song!

yeah...what's worrisome here is that Mick writes it, records it, listens to it, and decides it's the lead single.

I can't get my mind around how someone who has written some of the greatest songs of all time, could not only think of this, but after recording it and listening to it, decides it's 'something we should lead with'.

I fault all the other 'yes men' who didn't stand up and say something.

So what we have here, is a late career low point.

I'll say this: I wish they had put half the effort into Silver Train that they did performing this one live.

Guys,

It was one of the highlights in Rome, Ancient theather of Circus Maximus in front of 70000. Too bad the official clip didn't get the original live audio from Rome.
Totally different from the studio version. Taylor performing rock solid chords on overdrived electric guitar and Keith with tender accoustic licks you never heard on the studio or previous live version. Search youtube for the audience recordings of SOL, not the official clip. Magic song, magic night, magic rendition by Jagger, Richards, Taylor, Watts and Wood.

Cheers,
grizzly

Don't blame me ... I wasn't the one to write this crappy tune.
