Cool!
On a Strat too, that's unusual of him.

It almost came unstuck 2 or 3 times as well. Someone botched the intro and no one knew when to come back in from the instrumental break. Seeing it from side-on, looking at all the cues being give back and forth, was quite the sight.

I am always so grateful when they take more advantage of having MT with them, albeit I can think of 10 tunes I'd rather see him do than Silver Train...

Keith wearing a wig? From that angle it looks like he is 20 years younger!

Either way the photo is awesome...What a great concert to be at....anytime MT plays on more songs is a gift! Wish I was there...hopefully this get uploaded to youtube

I agree.
And while I love seeing/hearing them take some chances and not play it safe -- if they played more with Taylor the results would be even better.

I quite enjoyed that, the trainwreck after Taylor's solo notwithstanding

Thanks! Sounding and looking great. Why they'd didn't so ST more is a mystery to me.

Based on the above timing, it's the equivalent of 3 sides of Exile... Total Exile 67:02 Estimate above: 53:00. I don't know that I'd enjoy it as much as Exile, but I'd be pretty happy listening to what we got!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Well, it really is a huge improvement over the first try.

A couple of mistakes here and there, but nothing I would qualify as "trainwreck". The groove was great.

Mick struggles a little on the low notes during the choruses. I expected more help from Lisa & Bernard.

Solos (both) were quite lame.

Next time they will nail it!

Yes, sadly, I agree, and I don't think we'll hear it again. Increasingly I agree with your analysis after the Oslo rehearsals: Taylor's showcase songs don't get stage time not so much because of residual hostility to MT himself - although that may well be there - but simply because the band cannot play them that well. Sway's a good example - the solos being great is beside the point, because the music as a whole is not (how many attempts do they usually need in rehearsal to get the intro right?)

But it wasn't, and I doubt there will be a next time. Silver Train in Tokyo was a bit flat, I guess, but they never messed it up like they did last night. Even Jagger was off (he was on pitch, but missed his cues).

They should give him playing time on the blues numbers he played back in the day.

That said, I think both Ronnie and Taylor froze a bit during their solos. Mick did better this time, imo.

We were talking about MT's somewhat subdued playing on Silver Train on the resurrected More Mick Taylor thread, and from the above video I think I've figured out what's up with it: he's playing in open G tuning (this wasn't clear from the Tokyo video). I don't know why he would do this, since he normally plays slide in standard tuning and definitely did so on the studio version and with Carla Olsen. Maybe he, or the others, thought it would serve the song better somehow. But Taylor's slide work is definitely lower-key, so to speak, when he uses open tunings (obvious example: Love In Vain on Ya-Ya's versus Love In Vain live on the '72 tour. Not that one is better than the other, but there is a definite stylistic difference in how he plays.) He obviously finds single-note slide playing more intuitive when he's in standard tuning, and given that that's meant to be his job in Silver Train, it begs the question of why he didn't play that way.

Re: Did Mick Taylor perform on Silver Train last night?
Date: November 19, 2014 00:10

I think he sorely needs more overdrive when playing slide in standard tuning with that particular Strat as well.

He uses more single-strings while playing open G on Stop Breakin' Down.

Really nice rhythm playing by somebody...not sure if it's Keith or Taylor; sounded great. A rocky performance but slightly better than the first run even though it still needs tightening in some places---I doubt it'll be played again. Not sure why they gave Ronnie a solo...it only made the song unnecessarily longer. Give Taylor the solo and call it a day.
