Greatest Stones Live Track

Ok, if there is a thread of this, I cannot find it, so please pardon.

I got to thinking - if one were asked to choose one single live track, bootleg or not, that was the Stones' greatest live performance, what would it be? What song from what show would be it for you? If you had to explain to someone who never heard of the Stones what the band was all about with one live track, which song would best exemplify this band we all love?

After so much ado and after years of thought, for me, it is:

Live With Me from YaYa's

with the following as honorble mention(s):

Let It Rock from Leeds
JJF from Ladies & Gentlemen
Rambler from Brussels
Street Fighter from Brussels (London 73)
Hey Crawdaddy from Olympia 65

How about you?

From December's Children, by which time they were becoming seasoned pros and Brian was still very much in the game:

I've been enjoying the newly released Hampton 81 CD and an honorable mention must go to the set opener Under My Thumb, because it epitomizes what the Stones still had at that point: the rough edges with the classic sound. They had been recalibrated by punk, but not yet contaminated by eighties polish and overproduction, and they were still more than mere shadows of their late sixties and early seventies era.

First thought, Let it Rock from Leeds.

Add Tumbling Dice from Ladies and Gentlemen too.

For me the greatest live number would either be Gimme Shelter or Midnight Rambler. At the moment it's Midnight Rambler from Hyde Park.
I've played that version over and over again.

Cheers,
Wuudy

I have to go with Midnight Rambler from Ya Yas. I never tire of listening to it. It is because the '69 tour was a radical departure from all other tours they had done. They were taking risks musically, playing new material, they were breaking in their new, young guitarist, who dramatically changed their sound, and they played this long, creative, dark song called Midnight Rambler, with several tempo changes and disturbing lyrics. By the time they got to Brussels they had perfected it. But on Ya Yas, it was still raw, unrefined, and they even made a couple of musical mistakes on it. It was new, fresh, brilliant, and it remains my favorite live recording. I think it epitomized what the '69 tour was all about.

A toss up between When The Whip Comes Down (Detroit 78) and I'm Moving On (Live In England '65). Both features a swinging band with a charming imperfect Stones sound.

I confess to having forgotten to include the Got Live UK version of Route 66 in honorable mentions, as that track absolutely grooves! The El Mocambo version of Around & Around also bears mention, as it would've been a great 45 release way back....

The instrumental "Percussion Jam" (with screams adlibs by Mick) that leads into Doo Doo Doo Doo Heartbreakter during one of the five LA shows in 1975. It lasts about 1.20 seconds.
What an Eruption!!!
Comes to mind after watching LA Forum DVD (july 11, 1975) this weekend.drinking smiley

my 6 favorites

1-YCAGWYW Brussels Affair 9/10. would have got 10 but the sax solo goes onto a bit too long

2-Little Queenie Ya Ya's 9/10. would have got 10 but I guess its not really "live" with the overdubs

3-Midnight Rambler Brussels Affair. 9/10. would have got 10 but they play it a bit too fast

4-Love in Vain-Ladies & Gentleman. 9/10. Taylor's zenith

5- All Over now, I'm allright-TAMI show. Early Stones at their finest. 8/10

6-Just my imagination Live in Texas (also Miss You, Beast of Burden) 8/10 last gasp of glory (and Ronnie shows he can play)

Honorable mentions: JJF Ya Ya/SFTD Ya Ya/Tumbling Dice L&G and Brussels Affair

How to choose but one? But I'll cast another vote for Whip Comes Down from Sucking in the Seventies (which is Detroit '78).

(Am I really picking that over, say, Rambler from Brussels or Ya Ya's? Well, okay, today, yes. Tomorrow, who knows...)

Love in Vain from Ya-Ya's Out! THE best Mick Taylor solo on a live track.

For me it's the live version of Satisfaction from the Gimme Shelter movie.

A brilliant version, that's sounds spectacular (some great work by Mick T). Visually looks great too, with the incomparable Jagger having the audience enthralled.

Having said that hard to just have one track.
Other standouts for me include:
SFTD, MR Ya Ya's (MR Hyde Park 69 as well)
JJF- Gimme Shelter movie
Let it Rock- Marquee Club 71
Brown Sugar - Brussels Affair
