Mick's 1979 beard - I demand answers!
Posted by: punkfloyd ()

This has always slightly perplexed me.

Did he have his 19th nervous breakdown between Some Girls and Emotional Rescue?
Was he just wanting to be incognito for a while?
Was he auditioning for ZZ Top?

He really let that thing grow out. Any pictures of it in progress?

It's called divorce, even for someone who did more than his share of fooling around, no one, and O mean no one who gets married thinks it'll end in divorce...it throws everyone into a tailspin of some sort...he and Bianca were already done, except for the legal proceedings,..which happened after the 78 tour into 1979 and Emotional Rescue was the product of these times....does that make sense?

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

Every man gets tired of shaving eventually and experiments with facial hair. I personally think he looks great with the beard but I'm sure it would be solid gray these days..... peace

High Times: Do you have any trouble going out in New York anymore? I heard that’s why you grew your beard. Is that true?

Jagger: It did help, actually. I mean, it got me thrown out of all the best discos.

High Times: Why?

Jagger: I couldn’t get into Hurrahs one night. They said, "Get off the street, the likes of you." (New York accent)

Well he was smoking H according to Jerry. And he sure looked like it around 1975-1977 but according to Jerry she made him quit. Yes I know the pic is from 1979.

Beards suited the Beatles, The Band, Clapton, but not the Stones. Facial fuzz and the Stones appear incongruous, and just not right.

I love shaving, as I use a Braun Series 7, and also like the ritual beforehand, i.e. the warm water, the preshave electric lotion, the face flannel, and then a nice 15 minutes with the shaver. Then I splash Creed Green Irish Tweed on my face and neck, and I'm ready for action.

15 minutes shaving?

Do you have any body hair left?

Probably just wanted to give his face a rest, as all men do, from time to time. It's definitely a no-tour-this-year kind of look. There's no way you can sing Rolling Stones songs looking like this. Imagine if he'd shown up at a New Barbarians concert this way. Everyone would have been like, "Who the hell is this?"

That's always been my thought as well and I've always been perplexed that people never make the connection.. Ditto for the increased drug use.. I always theorized his divorce from Bianca took more of an emotional toll than many realized. You could see it in his face in that Rolling Stone photo.. He aged about 10 years in that period .
He may be Mick Jagger, but he's also human.

Lol.. That's funny.
You know, La Liz was known to be hirsute.. she was self-conscious of it...
Still, Liz married at the drop of a hat,
Mick not so much. It's a matter of degree in the depth of the individual..I would think. Not that Liz was shallow, but you know what I mean.
And am I the only that keeps forgetting my password?

To answer the OP, about the development of the ebard, there is one pic of Jagger in studio with a guitar strapped on, and a collared shirt, where the beard is still real short. I don't have access to it right now, but maybe someone else does.
