We're not talking about different things. I never meant that Keith would sweet-talk the judge to let him out of jail permanently smiling smiley

The Stones have been allergic to go public with their "kindness" before, whether it's been charity, supporting musicians in need or funding of different social enterprises, green tours etc.

Keith could have told that bail-out story in 1981, and gained some good-boy press out of it. To my recollection, he did not... It's a nice story, though.

BTW, I'm not so sure Keith ever bailed this guy out of anything (even though he says he did)...
i agree with you , this stuff seems like pure urban legend.

Okay Dandelion P, now I get what you're saying. I can indeed see more than one reason
for Keith not to discuss bailing him out until several decades later. I have no trouble believing he actually did it -
as you say the Stones have done a lot of that sort of thing.

However, I still don't see why the Stones would pay the guy to keep quiet about the actual stage-running spree.
I think people wondering why he's never come out in public saying "it seemed like a good idea at the time"
need to look in other directions. Like maybe it was Ronnie's stepson eye popping smiley
no no I mean maybe he doesn't even remember it, is embarrassed by it and/or was successfully psychoanalyzed and wants to move on.

Was the incident actually at that final show on December 18, 1981 in Hampton VA? I thought it took place at an earlier show at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. It is really a small detail but that was my understanding.

Both shows were recorded but the final show was a pay-per-view event which I never caught. Footage from the other show was part of the film "Let's Spend The Night Together" and released over a year later.

It happened on December 18th, 1981 in Hampton Virginia. For sure.

My guess is that Keith was trying to hit him with his guitar and lay him down. He actually only managed to get a glancing blow as the guy saw it coming and managed to deflect/stop the swing of the guitar.

Regarding the bail payment I'm guessing that this type of scenario may have taken place post show:
Keith: What the f*ck was that guy on stage for?
Security: Who knows. We turned him over to the cops and he was arrested and removed.
Keith/Someone else in Stones organization: Did they really need to arrest him? Somebody go pay his bail. We're not going to bother pressing charges.
Security/Stones Employee: Got it.

I don't buy the idea that Keith took $200 out of his pocket and paid the guys bail. He may or not have been responsible for SOMEONE in the Stones organization doing it. I have no idea.

All I know is that the guy should feel luck that he didn't receive a full blow with that Tele. Although it wasn't a full "axe chop" like Keith attempted, I've seen multiple incidents where guitar meets head and they never ended well for the head involved.

Peace,
Mr DJA

I agree that it surely wasn't Keith personally who went over to the lockup to spring the guy.
But it was probably up to the venue and/or local security to see the case through and I bet they did.

The final show was the day after, LoveYouLive. That show was just as good as the 18th, imo.

If you look close it is Mick Taylor asking to play on the encore. - you must examine the footage - can I get a Witness.

This is my guess too, how it would have gone down.

He did swing and did not catch the guy squarely if he had he would have laid the guy out. Not staged!

Keith missed; he didn't hit the guy with his guitar.

End of story.

Great story for Keith though. More to the cannon on things that didn't really happen.

Ronnie also played the main riff at times toward the end of the song.

Who did Keith hit in the head with his Custom 72 during Satisfaction (Hampton December 18)?

A crazed fan.

They had another one in Adelaide last week ! But security took care of him so no intervention required from Keith that time winking smiley

The fan was just an excited kid. No excuse for hitting him in the head with a guitar! Keith seems to have or had some weird macho problem. My opinion anyway.

This was just a year after Lennon was murdered in cold blood outside his own apartment. Flail away, Keith.

Spot on. Their was a huge malaise and apprehension amongst rock musicians about playing live as a result of Lennon's death. Didn't Paul McCartney go about 10 years without touring in the 1980s ?

Hit first, you must. Keith and Mick are very vulnerable in this instance, stuff happens fast and bad stuff even faster.

Really...an excited fan who was probably still in high school runs on stage and you Hit him in the head with a guitar? Keith would Certainly be embarrassed about this event today. The poor kid probably just smoked his first joint or had his
First beer. He was about as threatening as a bunny rabbit.

Seems a little push or a nasty look would have been better. There were plenty of
stagehands poised to ESCORT excited fans off the stage.

Think about all those videos of fans running on the stage after Mick from the
sixties. What if Mick beat one of the 12 year olds with a microphone?

Keith actually paid the kid's fine and jokes to this day that the kid never paid him back.

If Keith did this - it does sounds like the morale Keith we know. This makes the most sense of all - I'm going with it and am satisfied. Case closed. More Cowbell!

He didn't hit him in the head, obviously, if you look at the clip. If there was contact, it was more like in the shoulder.

Remember, this was a year after the Lennon murder.

This and the COPIOUS amount of powdered "stimulant" Keef took during the backstage break before the encore.
I'm sure that if the guy had jumped during the core of the show Keef would have just showed him the exit.

Anyway doesn't the guy look like Bill German? >grinning smiley<
