This is a truly awful version. Unlistenable.

Which show is this from? In the end, you can't beat the original studio version. When the maracas come in at the break...f*ck yeah!

Nothing beats this one. This drive and groove was never replicated ever, imo.

I wholeheartedly agree.

its hard to beat this. Has Jagger ever been better than when he is getting it on in the end sequence there? Like a snake.
I always love the outtakes, rough mixes or whatever because often you hear details that you know, but never really analyzed. In the studio version of JJF the BU voxals in choruse are unique because on the last 'gas gas gas" a low harmony comes in.

The best one, of course, with the apostrophe.

For my money, the Rolling Stones never sounded better than this. Perfection.

Yep! This and Honky Tonk Women from 1975 have the same essence and are superiour to the studio versions.

Let's not overthink this one: The original studio version is absolute perfection, one of the best things they ever did, and one of the best single rock 'n' roll tracks ever recorded.

thumbs upthumbs upthumbs up

As for covers by other bands, Johnny Winter And Live has an excellent rendition of the song.

1969, 1972, 1973, all of those years have great versions, as well as some real meltdowns ( possibly due to equipment malfunction which was far more frequent 40+ years ago).

I like the '69 version but I like the way they did it in 2003 better...faster, more physical!

one of the best live versions in the last decades is jumping jack flash in Le Trabendo 2012 with a slow tempo

This is the L&G-version. Not my favourite. Mick sounds like he's having trouble on the john...

Unsure how the version in '72 deteriorated so much from the menacing slower version just three years earlier. But it sure did.

If I had to guess I'd say cocaine was the cause of the deterioration of this version from '72. The rushed tempo, Jagger's vocal pretty much make this version a bust. peace

I humbly beg to differ. This is not the L&G version. The L&G JJF has its own problems--namely the blown ending, but the rest of the song is pretty solid. That version can be seen here: [www.youtube.com]

I think this may be from Welcome to New York? July 26, 1972.
