Love Is Strong

Longtime reader of this board 1st time poster. I know VL has been discussed lately as its been 20 years since its release. I was blown away when I 1st heard Love Is Strong. Couldn't get enough of it and then when I caught the video (and I don't care much for videos) I thought it was really cool. I saw 4 shows that tour and it's still my favorite tour (I have seen all the tours since 89 only). Loved Not Fade Away as the opener. Really liked that album too.

Heard it live once (in Brno, I think) and it was one of the highlights.

One of their best tracks ever and one of those which can compete with their classics.

great song.
Its one of those songs where one can really see the different manner in which Jagger and Keith approach the lead vocal to the same song.
Keith's version bops more, but Jagger's version brings something you can sink your teeth into.

Think I played that song everyday for a year or longer when it was released. The only song I loved that much since is Plundered My Soul. Not to say there aren't other good ones. Bigger Bang had some great stuff too imo. Welcome to iorr!

One of my favorites. And I thought the Stones of modest height until I saw the video. (No one can play a water tower like Charlie.)

Yeah me too Frank; re. "Plundered". It was the first Stonescut in a long time where I got so excited and enamored of it that I played it all the time.

I had the same experience with We Had it All, although I had heard different versions of it prior to the SG Deluxe-release smiling smiley

I think Mick's harmonica goes a long way towards making that track so good.

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

Yes, the harmonica definitely plays an important part. The only other tune I can think of in this manner would be Midnight Rambler. The video for Love Is Strong is epic in my opinion. Maybe even the best. Well, now I just thought of Like A Rolling Stones while typing this, ha-ha. I Go Wild also phenominalsmiling smiley Maybe this is why I love The Voodoo Lounge tour/record so much. It was a great moment in Stones history for me.

The combination of Mick's harp, Keith's guitars and Mick's dark voice is a winner, imo.

How can you slag off the snare and the guitars pal?!?!!? The "Kimsey-like" recording of Charlie and Keith is what makes the world go around its axis!!!

How well we treat our minorities is a true test of how we've evolved as a society. Just sayin'....

They played it at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore in 2006. It was absolutely menacing. Mick's harp was fabulous.

In Brno 2007 was a very pleasant surprise and by far the highlight of the show.

I really liked it when it came out, and I'll still listen to it now, which is a big deal for me in the Post-Wyman era studio recordings. I thought it signaled that they'd be okay in the rhythm section, and that they'd replaced Bill adequately. And I liked You Got Me Rocking. Then something happened over time and the replacement bassist lost his mojo, or he looked down on the classic Stones sound, whatever. Mick & Keith must have noticed it too because they used a lot of different bassists on BTB, and even Mick tried (laughably) on ABB.

love is strong is a great song, and goes well with the video.

would fit in easily in any best of hits compilations.

it also swung my decision towards newyork when we were deciding to go for a city weekend break.

A friend of mine from Calif years ago sent me a "Commercial Reel" of David Fincher (Director) that includes a bunch of commercials and then.."Rolling Stones Love Is Strong". This is sort of a "best of" for a director to shop around for future clients to drum up business I'm told. So it is legit broadcast quality. The only thing is I've never got to view it because its on one of those wide ass tapes that has to be played on studio grade equipment. I always wished I knew someone that worked at a tv station or something that could transfer it for me!
