Good luck to them but they broke up just when they got really popular on a Stones tour. They could have really cleaned up and made millions if they stuck together for another 5-10 years.
They broke up 30 years ago. My take is they can all use the cash so are on a limited tour. They still hate each other but need the money.
For me J Geils is at the top of groups that broke up at the wrong time. Not too many people remember them these days. Their time was 30 years ago. Fame is a very perishable commodity.....

33 years ago they became stars. They really deserved that break, after working hard for over 14 years.
30 years ago they release the clunker over all clunkers without Wolf, imo.
I would have seen them today anyhow, even without Stephen Joe and J.Geils. They really should get back together again, do an album and a proper tour, though.

Actually, they are the J. Geils-less band now but Jay was the least consequntial player in the whole outfit. In recent years they run through the old set like it was still 1975-76 and then tack the MTV era songs on at the end. I'm seeing them open for Seger so it'll be interesting to see how they play a shorter set. I haven't seen them do that since they opened for the Stones in 1975.

Yes.
Yes. (*)
and Yes.
(*) Except I wouldn't be quite as hard on that last album. While it was, without a doubt, my least favorite album they did, there were a few songs on there that I still enjoy today. I just wish Wolf was on there as well. On a side note: I always find it interesting that the two albums I can't find to complete my J Geils/Peter Wolf collection are their last and his first. Also find it interesting that, when my mind replays songs from those albums in my head, all of the horrible 80's production sounds are gone and only the songs remain.
Peace,
Mr DJA

Yeah, I was a bit harsh on that last album. What annoys me about it, though, is that it was so evident that Justman was calling the shots musically and production-wise. I know it's not fair, since I didn't listen to this album back in the day, but 20 years later when it was hopelessly dated.
Why can't you find those albums - they're not available in your stores? I just stumbled over a new vinyl version of the debut album here in Norway (180 g vinyl), and You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd is everywhere here in the discount bin...

At least we're used to the Stones decline and don't have much expectations.

Wouldn't they sound like crap? At least we're used to the Stones decline and don't have much expectations. I can't see enjoying a decrepit, slowed down version of cuts from their brilliant 'Full House' live album. I'm afraid it would be like that pitiful, molasses in January time that Cream were when they reunited. These groups that try and come back after long periods just don't have the chops. Look how long it took the Stones to get up to an acceptable speed. They were really slow on the 2013 American tour and didn't really shake off the rust until Europe 2014. I saw Jeff Beck & ZZ Top this summer and they were great, but they're road dogs, usually touring every year.

?? Could you please rephrase that the way it (probably) is intended?
Like - "At least I am used to what I consider to be the Stones' decline, and therefore I don't have much expectations (whenever I go see them)"...!?

An opening act and far away? Yes, those are logical reasons that maybe its not worth it. Personally I'd love to go, but I've seen Seger 3 times and he doesn't play enough different to justify the price. It would be about $90 for Seger and $50 for J Geils, and while I really want to see Geils, that price is too high for Seger for a show I've pretty much seen several times over already. If he busts out a new setlist with some good shit (even change the opening song), I'll be there.

Three things:
This time I will see Geils, then leave and revel in the memory of the 10 songs they maybe get to play..better than nothing.

I'll pass. Seeing the J. Geils Band without J. Geils is like seeing the Allman Brothers Band without Greg Allman. IMHO.
