Let's face it: Very few of us makes bargains. Try to sell off your Stones collection and see what you'll get for it. You should be so lucky if you get 10-15% of your initial spendings.
At least in most cases. There are always exceptions to the rule...

I don't even know how much I've spent through the years, but given how some of the classic and collectible stuff, and sealed albums, have gone up considerably I've at least broken even.

Having said that, you're right, you're getting a dime on the dollar for most of it. The 80/20 rule.

Back in the early/mid 70s in the $1.99 cut-out bin at Woolco (offshoot of Woolworth's):

NRBQ -- 1st LP, "Boppin' the Blues", and the wonderful "Scraps".

Flamin' Groovies -- "Supersnazz", "Teenage Head"

Beach Boys - -"Wild Honey" (on 8 track)

The Youngbloods -- 1st LP and "Earth Music" (very overlooked these 2)

The JB's -- "Pass the Peas"

Just about every Funkadelic LP -- I always wondered if they were bootlegs.

Lou Reed -- 1st LP, ""Berlin"

I know there were many more but those are the gooduns I can come up with right now.

prices are to my best recollection..

vinyl:

Original BB toilet London cover slick - $20 purchased circa 1970
Orange vinyl BB from Holland, mispress w/LIB on side 2. $20 1980's.
We Love You ps London - $1 day of release.
Pipes of Pan w/original "Brian Jones Plays with.." cover. $4 day of release.
bootleg "Battle". Side 1 unreleased Chess session, Side 2 Beatles Shea. $10 1972

cd:

I worked in a cd plant back in early 1980's - one of the 1st US plants. Got the following (free, of course):

David Bowie - live Spiders from Mars cd for radio stations. Only 50 shipped as I recall. Nicked 3 copies. Gave them away as Christmas gifts.

Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything. None shipped - no rights. Nicked one. Still have it.

Century 21 Masters. Unauthorized compilations of various artists. Very few of each disc were pressed - maybe 100-200 copies each were pressed and sent to radio stations. There were maybe 10-20 different packages, in all. Nicked copies that contained the very first Beatles and Stones songs to appear on cd including:

When I'm 64 - first known Beatles song to appear on cd - pre-dates the infamous Japanese Abbey Road cd.
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds
Ruby Tuesday
Paint it, Black

As I recall, a "cease and desist" shut down this series. It was a pretty big stink.

ot

VL Visa credit card. Still in original packaging w/activation sticker still intact. Never activated. Free, 1994.

Dunno if there is any monetary value to the cd's or credit card. Don't care. Fun to own and NOT for sale.

US pressed CD single CSK1897 Terrifying / Rock And A Hard Place
As I understand they made less than 100 copies of this one, not sure though.
But it is usually listed in top five of the rarest Stones CD's ever.

Got it from an Internet auction many moons back for ..... 7 Euro
The seller was even located in my hometown, just a stone throw away smiling smiley

The risk that I would sell my Stones-records is not bigger than that I would sell my one arm so the value is at least 100% + inflation amount x 1000 spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

A US Promotional album, but it wasn't that simple. I bought a cover less record for $20 just in case it would upgrade a trashed record in a reasonable jacket. Literally days after the record arrived a record less jacket appeared on eBay! That cost me about another $50 but for what was a $1,500 record at the time I wasn't complaining. Not going to get that lucky again!
