Wilko with Charlie Chan yesterday: Wilko quips "that man saved my life ..." Heartwarming stuff.

Wilko news: We just had to share this heartening update from the inimitable Charles Shaar Murray. As you can imagine, Wilko's still got a long way to go, but he's in good spirits and we must reiterate CSM's last line - he really does appreciate all the positive vibes. Thanks Charles, and thank you one and all.

Yesterday: a lovely Sunday afternoon by the seaside ... to be precise, hanging out with Wilko Johnson and a bunch of his mates, including the inimitable Norman Watt-Roy, Wilk's manager Lisa Climie, his saviour cancer specialist/ace photographer Charlie Chan (yep, that really is his name and yep, he's heard ALL the jokes at least 100 times each so he doesn't need to hear any of them again, ever), the splendiferous Anna Chen and several other lovely peeps. Festivities included an epic Chinese meal, during which everybody ate until it hurt and everybody who wasn't driving drank until their back teeth floated. Wilk's still in the comparatively early stages of recovery from his MASSIVE life-saving surgery, but he's in good spirits (though he's no longer drinking any), working hard to rebuild strength and stamina, itching to resume maltreating Telecasters in public and even speculating on returning to Game of Thrones once Ser Ilyn Payne is no longer ill in pain and he's strong enough to wield the Big Sword once more. And he thanks all y'all for the good vibes.

Hi Deltics,

I'm so glad to read that, especially after recent horrible endings like Lynda Bellingham's.
Go Wilko go!

Cheers,

Simon.

Really upset about Lynda Bellingham; cancer is a vile disease, though I've a friend that survived prostate cancer recently.

I had my own scare recently with some pre-cancerous lumps on my skin, which, thankfully, are OK. I wish I could say the same about my mental health though, as I have to see another psychiatrist soon. I have OCD, which is causing problems.

However, I'm so glad Wilko's on the mend too.

Fantastic news. Can only imagine the atmosphere if he returns to the venues he played on his "farewell" tour.

Brilliant that Wilko's back. Early Stones fans would do well to catch The Strypes in concert. If you like the best of early 60s British RnB (Yardbirds/Stones/Pretty Things etc..) you'll love them.

Great to see him back. To be a bit trainspottery, he's not using his usual Cornell amp. A Fender?

Hope he's up to touring soon.

A film directed by Julien Temple that confronts our worst nightmares of impending death, confounding expectations and turning them upside down. It tells the extraordinary, yet universal story of legendary musician Wilko Johnson, who diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer and given a few months to live, managed to accept his fate with uplifting positivity and defy the death sentence handed down to him.

Hope this doesn't fall foul of the "waking up old threads" rule!

Hello,

Saw The Wilko Johnson Band last night in Manchester and one is delighted to report that they played as well as any time that I've seen them over the last ten years.
The Man looked well and even if he isn't careering around the stage anymore, he is still a captivating presence and the joy up there was almost tangible.

It isn't just him thankfully: a massive debt is owed to both Dylan Howe and Norman Watt-Roy who are a phenomenal rhythm section and all three are as near a perfect musical-fit as you'll see. Yeah, you could say that I enjoyed those 75 minutes, hah-hah! Roll on next Thursday and The R.A.H.!
