Boy, I lucked out on seeing Beck & ZZ Top together. They had to cancel some early dates too, right? It's been two great years of Beck, first with Brian Wilson, and this summer with ZZ Top. I hope Dusty is okay and they can resume touring.

Cancelled!

ZZ Top forced to postpone current run of shows
Posted by: Crackinup ()
Date: August 28, 2014 18:30

"Iconic Houston blues-rock trio ZZ Top has been forced to cancel their current tour due to an injury within the band.

Bassist Dusty Hill slipped and injured his hip while aboard a tour bus this week, according to the band’s publicist, Bob Merlis.

“ZZ Top performance dates have been temporarily suspended while he recovers. Tour dates affected by the suspension include all of the scheduled concert bills shared with Jeff Beck through September 13,” Merlis said in a press release late Wednesday.

This cancellation, of course, affects the band’s Sept. 12 homecoming show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, which Beck was to open.

Merlis added that ticket holders for six dates, including the Houston one, should retain their tickets, pending the possibility of rescheduling.

Earlier in the summer Hill’s fight with a bout of kidney stones led to this run of dates having a slow start."

"Jeff and the band are heading home now for a break but will be back in November for some make up dates with ZZ Top.
We are wishing Dusty Hill all the best for a speedy recovery"!

From ZZ Top's facebook page:

DUSTY HILL ON THE MEND…! ZZ TOP ROADSHOW TO RESUME FIRST OF THE YEAR

ZZ TOP have just announced that scheduled tour dates will resume at the first of the year, stating, "Dusty's well being is paramount.” The statement is in reference to Dusty Hill, the band’s bass-guitarist, who, earlier, took a mis-step on his tour bus and injured his hip, whose energies are now aimed at rehab in expectation of a a complete recovery.

The band’s management is now booking and re-scheduling an extensive run of dates starting early next year. “We’re looking forward to getting out there and rockin’ it with Dusty in a big way...100%,” bandmates Billy F Gibbons and Frank Beard, commented. Dusty's usual upbeat wit was very much in evidence as he added that he'd like to see Slim Harpo’s classic "Hip Shake" added to the band's repertoire.

Ticket holders for tour dates this fall run should hold on to their tickets until the updated schedule is posted early next week.

Ticket holders for the ZZ Top / Jeff Beck events will be pleased to know they have have been rescheduled as noted below:

05/08/15 W. Palm Beach, FL – Cruzan Amphitheatre

Jeff Beck Announces 2015 Solo Tour, ZZ Top Make-Up Dates & New Album

The new year isn't even here yet, but Jeff Beck just let it be known that he won't be slowing down. This morning, Beck announced that he'll headline a string of solo US dates in addition to the Beck and ZZ Top rescheduled make-up dates from this past September when the hugely successful double-bill tour was cut short due to an unfortunate injury to ZZ Top bassist, Dusty Hill.

“We’re so glad that Dusty made a full recovery and now, we are looking forward to getting back out there and finish what we started,” stated Beck.
If 2015 can't come soon enough (or you're not lucky enough to live new one of the tour stops), a DVD of Beck’s Tokyo concert from April of this year was released on November 25th. In addition to both solo and co-headlining dates with ZZ Top, Beck will complete work on his new studio album, expected next year.
Joining Beck on both the solo and double-bill tour are his band – Jimmy Hall on Vocals, Rhonda Smith on bass, Jonathan Joseph on drums and Nicolas Meier on guitar. During her downtime between tours, Beck bassist, Rhonda Smith, led a PRS Guitars sponsored clinic at Bass Player LIVE in Los Angeles last month for our sister publication, Bass Player magazine.

April 22 Bergen Performing Arts Center Englewood, NJ
April 24 Count Basie Theatre Red Band, NJ
April 25 The Strand – Capital Performing Arts Center York, PA

Haven't heard about this until now...

Jeff Beck 1960s film trailer launched
News / Martin Kielty / 09 Dec 2014

> Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck’s formative era is the subject of a two-hour documentary that’s being trailed with a five-minute clip.

Entitled A Man For All Seasons: Jeff Beck In The 1960s, the title will be released on DVD soon and it’s available for pre-order now.

It features performance footage and new interviews with Yardbirds bandmates Jim McCarty and Chris Dreja along with collaborators, management and journalists.
They discuss his early influences, band work, his brief solo pop career and the first incarnation of the Jeff Beck Group, featuring Rod Stewart and Ron Wood.

Billed as “the first documentary to singularly focus on Beck’s career” it’s described as “a legitimate tribute and enthralling history.”

Well I don't know how good or bad it will be, or whether it's officialy authorized by Beck or not.
For the most it looks like just a bunch of talking heads raving about Beck which the preview seems to show.

There does seem to be legit snippets of Beck playing live towards the end of the preview, but the rest sounds like "elevator" blues/rock guitar based tunes.

Hmmmmmmm...........

Jeff was considering legal action to block this release but the logistics involved finally changed his mind. He's not happy about it though. He's writing his autobiography and has a Genesis book coming out:

Amazing show!
Was fortunate to get the Jeff Beck VIP, and was treated to a 45 minute soundcheck with about 50 other people in an otherwise empty Greek Theater.
It was very casual, and Jeff chatted back and forth with us in between numbers. At one point he told his drummer to show us all what he's got,
and the guy blazed a hailstorm of machine gun-like fury on his set making everyone's jaws drop while Beck shook his head and laughed in disbelief and awe.
I'm not really into drum solo's by any means, but this was easily the best 30 second drum solo I've ever seen!

Some young whippersnapper named Tyler Bryant opened the show, and he played a very nice solo acoustic set tearing it up on slide.
While his guitar playing was on the mark, his vocals were kind of weak, but I suppose that can be expected for someone as young as he is.

As they always say: "Jeff keeps getting better and better", and after seeing him live numerous times throughout the years, the saying still holds true.
Every time I see him = blown away by his virtuosity, and as was mentioned previously by DEmerson and crawdaddy , the 2nd guitar player fit in well.

As for ZZ Top, have seen them several times since '83, the most recent (prior to last night) at the House of Blues front row a couple years ago.
While that was a great show, last night they seemed better and tighter...perhaps fueled by having Jeff Beck in their presence.
Maybe they'll keep getting better and better as time marches on ala Jeff Beck!

If you get a chance, see this tour!

They are starting up again soon, happily. Hairball, what time was the soundcheck? I have VIP for Kingston and I'm trying to do the logistics. Thank you for any info.

Nice story Hairball, No doubt having Mr. Beck in the audience is going to motivate guitarists to be on their best game. Clapton should consider inviting him to all his shows. winking smiley And I totally agree about him getting better and better...and he started out great so it's a pretty amazing accomplishment and compliment.

As per my post from one page back in this thread:

Picked up tickets at Will call at 3:45.
Met Karen at 4:00. Names were on list (didn't need to show tickets-just I.D.)and we were given VIP laminates.
She said come back at 5:00-ish for soundcheck. Didn't go anywhere, waited with everyone and soundcheck began apprx. 5:00.

Have a great time - wish I could do it all over again! thumbs up
