Stones and double-neck guitars?
Posted by: ifyacantrockme ()

I've seen quite a few concert videos recently and many guitarists wielding double-necks, Jimmy Page, Rick Nielson, Alex Lifeson, Denny Laine, even Joe Perry. Have Ron or Keith ever donned the double neck for any studio or live work?

Keith wouldn't know what to do with a whole 'nuther neck...he doesn't even use all 6 strings!

Would you settle for a double cutaway guitar ('Dice')?

How about a double capo?

The typical double-neck guitar has six-string and 12-string necks. I can't think of anything in their live set that would warrant Keith or Ronnie using such a guitar (which, BTW, are a bit heavy and quite bulky). However, I've seen some other configurations. Mike Rutherford (Genesis) used to play a 12-string and four-string bass double-neck.

Double-necks that Keith might be able to use would be: one with five- and six-string necks, one with five and ten-string necks (think Wild Horses) or one with two six-string necks (one standard, one in open D or E tuning, think Gimme Shelter). However, he has long since adapted song arrangements to play all of his parts in one tuning or another. Trying to change his part to suit a double-neck might shock his conscience at this point.

They are quite ugly, those mutant guitars...

Keith could easily restring both necks and have two strings on one, and three on the other. You don't give the man enough credit.

John Lodge who is the bass player for The Moody Blues has a Fender double neck. One neck is a bass and the other is a Tele neck 6 string.

I think it's time now for that old Saturday Night Live mock commercial skit from the 70s of the Triple-Trac Razor? "The Trac III, because you will believe anything."

Of course, we could go for the Jellette 8-track Mp3 shaver....

....or the 8-blade "Octaginator".

Jimmy would just say "Is that the name of a song?" If it is, I wrote it!"

Wow..never saw this photo before. Looks to be around 1967. This is the only time I've ever seen Townshend with a double-neck SG. I wonder what songs he used it on?

Wonder if he smashed it up at the end?
