OT. Songs That Sound Similar To Each Other

or perhaps parts of songs that remind you of other songs.

I was listening to George Harrison's 'I Dig Love' today, after devoting a great deal of time to Lou Reed's BERLIN album, and i noticed the drum fills at the beginning of 'I Dig Love' and 'How Do You Think It Feels' are rather similar. In fact i even think the melodies/song structure in these two songs in places are very alike, too. Maybe the similarity isn't explicit in the most obvious sense, because the mood of these two songs are very different, but i do feel there's a link. Maybe Lou had been listening to George on the sly, and lifted a few ideas. Or maybe his drummer had a few ideas of his own, which also related to George's song. Or maybe i'm reading a little too much into something that's perhaps tenuous at best! I'm not sure! What do you think?!

Do you have examples, of songs/parts of songs, that sound rather similar to each other? I'm not talking of the most notorious examples, like the Jam's 'Start' and The Beatles 'Taxman', or the BBC Grandstand theme and 'Forget About You' by the Motors, necessarily, but ones that perhaps are a little less obvious, too.

A few famous examples:

"Theme from Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker, Jr. sounds like "I Want a New Drug" by Huey Lewis & the News. Both were big hits of 1984, but as "I Want a New Drug" was recorded in 1983, Ray's song is the copycat. Huey sued Ray, but then Ray retaliated after Huey discussed the details of the outcome on "Behind the Music."

And speaking of George Harrison, his "My Sweet Lord" sounded like the Chiffons' "He's So Fine." The Chiffons got a piece of their pie during the outcome by covering Harrison's tune. Harrison responded by writing "This Song."

The riff of Jumpin` Jack Flash and `Catch Me Now I`m Falling` by the Kinks.

Actually, JJF sort of rips Satisfaction off.

The "I want my MTV" vocal line IS the "Don't stand so close to me" line. Pretty sure Sting got a writers credit for that.

Every subsequent Stones song with a "riff beginning" I've wondered if they were consciously trying for another catchy riff like Satisfaction, whether in Hearts for Sale or Driving Too Fast. But maybe it's not done consciously.

The intro riff to Brown Sugar, the one at the start that's repeated 4 times before going into the main body of the song is taken from a Bill Haley instrumental break.

I was driving along one day when I heard the song on the radio & right in the middle, quite unmistakeable, was the riff, a fair bit slower than Brown Sugar. The announcer only back-announced Bill Haley as the performer but not the song I've been searching for 20 years to prove I wasn't halucinating, but to no avail

Louis Jordan's guitarist Carl Hogan was a big influence on Chuck Berry, enough for Berry to copy Hogan note for note.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mick and Keith had a good listen to this one, before they wrote Connection winking smiley - listen to the verses.

And of course the verse vocal melody on this

comes from the chorus vocal melody of this

Of course, Oasis were as good as Zeppelin at "repurposing"
