Looking for a pic with Joe and Mick. Is there a picture?
I wonder how was the relation between the Clash and the Stones. I know Joe Strummer was a huge Stones fan.

I just found this one, of Mick with Mick Jones, via Corbis images.

On "The Future is Unwritten" documentary, Joe Strummer talks about how the Stones music changed his life, or something like that.

Pretty sure this is the Who's Last tour, 1982 (sponsored by Schlitz beer-God awful piss). JFK Stadium Philadelphia.

Joe Strummer said in Rolling Stone Magazine about seeing the Stones on the 40 Licks Tour (paraphrase): "I'd never seen them live before. They were incredible. They're the greatest rock 'n' roll band in Christendom. In Islamdom, too."

You're right. The description of the photograph says "Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and The Clash's Mick Jones hang out together backstage at a concert by The Who". It was taken ca. September 1982, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA by a photographer called Neal Preston.

One year to the day after the Still Life tour opener. Apparently The Clash weren't treated well by the always warm and welcoming Philly crowd?! Bottles and fruit being thrown at them.

Here are some attendees accounts of the day-

I have a copy of rollin stone magazine with Keith Richards interview ( Talk is Cheap era) He was asked " What did you think about punk ? - and he said that punk looked really interesting in the media, but he didnt like the music, cause punks didnt know how to play. Then he said that he really liked Mick Jones new band: The Big Audio Dynamite.

Keith nearly produced a reunion single for B.A.D.in 2011. He's come around to the Clash too, but still unsurprisingly relates most to Mick Jones. Jagger has been a Clash supporter since the Stones time in New York in the late '70's.

Are there no actual images of Strummer and Jagger from this day? Could it have been that Strummer hid from Mick, rather than having to explain or apologize for the lyrics to the song 1977?

In 1977 I hope I go to heaven
Cause I been too long on the dole
And I can't work at all

Danger stranger
You better paint your face
No Elvis, Beatles, or the Rolling Stones
In 1977

Knew that punk was over. As in, did Lou Gehrig know he had Lou Gehrig's disease?

Jagger had dinner with my late manager in London with Joe and Paul Simonon. Joe was so nervous!

If you had ears and you had seen the Clash both on a good night with Topper and in 1982 with Terry Chimes, you KNEW the Clash was over. I remember coming home from their September 2, 1982 show at Pier 84 in NYC and telling a friend that they were done.

No way, I saw them in 79 at the Palladium and the 3 shows at the Pier in 84. The first show in 84 was weird as Jones was trying weird reverb stuff. The next 2 shows were fantastic

Mick left in '83 . The Pier 84 shows with him were in '82. I think both reactions to that tour are valid. They were doing some really cool stuff but the energy was not the same without Topper. It was less dimensional. The post-Mick Clash was a loud, clubfisted tribute act with a great singer and songs but no soul or vibe.

"Clubfisted" aptly describes Terry Chimes and Pete Howard, both sorry, inadequate substitutes for one of rock's great drummers.

Replacing Topper with these two jokers would be like subbing Phil Rudd for Charlie Watts.

The Clash died a fiery death at the US Festival too...how many deaths did these poor souls suffer?
