Here's a start:

Guns and Roses - Sympathy For The Devil
The Who - The Last Time or Under My Thumb
Gram Parsons - Wild Horses
David Bowie - Let's Spend The Night Together
The Beatles - I Wanna Be Your Man
Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone

Perhaps we should have a rule that you can't nominate existing versions spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Yeah I was yanking your chain a bit...particularly with the suggested Beatles and Dylan covers.

No, I'm thinking double CD including about 40 tracks recorded as part of one project - as opposed to a collection of old recordings thrown together

Billy Bragg did a great She Smiled Sweetly a few years back, it was on a free cd with Uncut magazine.

It's been done in a very cool way. Check this out.

And the cover of Satisfaction that's on the original Paint It Blue disc:

Would love to hear the Stones recast Satisfaction in the style of Mister Wells.

Brian Wilson - My Obsession he was at the session and raves about this song to this day.

Bob Dylan could cover the Rice Krispies song in the style of Subterranean Homesick Blues.
I nominate Marianne Faithfull to do English Summer.

General Noriega - Panama Powder Room

Is that a country album? Sounds a bit limited. We need something that will encompass a variety of styles / artists.

I hope it doesn't happen, not impressed with this release.

I've been listening to this all weekend. Amazing album. But I got to thinking that a similar album covering a range of great Stones tracks would be a really great idea. You could certainly have fun compiling a wish list of artists and what songs they could do.

I don't believe it would work for the Stones songs. Dylan, Beatles, McCartney, Lennon...yes.

I know there's been been some decent covers over the years (maybe that would be best, collect all the best covers...limited to 10 or 12 best and include video disc of performances?). But the bulk of Stones songs are just not coverable (not sure that's a word)...and that I can only see and hear the Stones record and perform.

The same for someone like Springsteen...

Not sure why this was moved into the Beatles thread when it's actually more about the Stones.

With respect, anything not to do with The Stones is Off Topic. Just start of with OT before you start the thread.

Just the way things are done here.

I know how things are done. I've been here before (oh yes). But my thread was about the Stones and had the word Stones in the title hence no need for OT.

Does someone in charge actively despise the Beatles? or what is the deal?

It appears that the mere mention of Paul McCartney landed this thread--about a Stones' tribute
album--in the undifferentiated mess of the bottomless Macca pit.

Got it in one. A bit tunnel visioned. Whoever transferred the thread clearly didn't take the time to consider it's Stones related content or it's Stones related title. The thread was all about the Stones.
