It's not weird and not lonesome.

The way the meaning in the song is completely turned around between the studio version and the GYYYO version is quite amazing and very compelling. It's echoed in how the musical arrangement between the two versions is also quite different.

Just listened to the live version from the 2002 Wiltern show...one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed.

'Fearful' sounds like the closest (I'm talking about the Beggars Banquet version) although don't think that's it. I'm actually attempting to sing this at a gig soon so though it would be nice to do the original lyrics.

Thanks for your suggestions though!

I rather enjoy the Hyde Park 69 version (sloppy as it is!)..it holds a little truer to the studio cut. I noticed they returned to the studio arrangement a bit more on the 2002 versions also.

Yeah, that Hyde Park version is a bit of a lost gem:

Here's a cool one from Milan 1970, possibly the slowest one ever!
Mick T is wailing on this one; I wish it was available in better quality.

Here's one with better quality from 1970, from Essen. Unlike the Ya-Ya's version it has horns on it. Mick T's subtle licks are sublime, but Jagger steals the show. Don't miss!

The one from Leeds '71 doesn't have the same dynamics and groove as the previous, IMHO, but the two Micks still scream pretty good:

In 2003 it sounded like a whole different song. Not as good as the '68-71 renditions, but the faster tempo is refreshing:

In the end, the studio version is the best. Hearing this one for the first time is something I will never forget. One of Keith's best lead guitar ever, Nicky's awesome, and Charlie's never played the hihat better.

Everything about that song is great, really. But I'm very happy to see the Hyde Park one again!

On Ya-ya's it is lonesome.

On Beggars, it seems to be "You look scared 'cause you're so far from home"

Isn't it 'You look scared 'cause you're so far from home'?

On Ya Ya's it's 'lonesome'.

I think that's the previous verse, where he's singing "I can see that you're so far from home." It's the next verse where I can't make it out--the line before "But you don't really miss your mother."

So what do you reckon, "Don't look so scared, I'm not no mad-brained bear" or "Don't look so scared out of my man-made bed"? Some of these lyric web sites are hilarious.

Yes, it's 'lonesome' on Ya Ya's. A great song, and only the Stones could get away with a song about a threesome with under age girls. Paedophile Rock should be a new genre to replace Cock Rock!
