Everyone wants to tell the Rolling Stones how to run the Rolling Stones.

You know what the "highlights of the show" really was?

The Rolling Stones.
aka Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie.

So I suppose Emotional Rescue was the highlight for you last night even though I doubt you were even at the freaking show.

Sad. Sad. Sad. (That's a song and an observation)

Emotional Rescue.
Sounds like what is needed.

And a great song played live for the first time. Ever.

It would have been an HONOR to have witnessed it in person
and hope they keep it in the rotation for the shows I attend.

There's a reason they opened with Get off of MY Cloud....

Funny how MT fans still think it's 1972 and nothing have changed since.

Mick Taylor's talent being wasted...

...quite true; he's been doing that himself, ever since the mid 70's, in fact.
But I'd never hold that against him!
He's welcome on stage, as far as I'm concerned! For as long as our band lets him.

Sorry to butt in here, but I don't see that Mick Taylor's talent is wasted.
Doesn't he tour on his own or with other musicians? I see that he does on his website. Doesn't he have CDs? I've seen CDs of his on Amazon.
Is he unhappy that he quit the Stones?
Does he regret that move?
Do the Rolling Stones want to rehire him as a salaried employee?
As far as his playing songs on this tour- that's pretty much Mick's call, right?
Maybe Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie decided together on MT's role?
We have seen Staples so far; maybe there will be more songs or maybe not.
He seems to be a "GUEST ARTIST" so far anyway.
One song for each of the guest artist seems to be the game plan.
I guess. I don't know.
I just feel blessed to be going to see them.
I am also excited. I am going to see The Rolling Stones.
How cool.

At the VERY LEAST have him come on and play ONE encore song....or if you have to have the "token" industry drible like Gwen S??? and Keith Urban to keep the "suits" happy, have them ALL come back and join in for YCAGWYW and JJF. WTF, I mean I know they have to keep EVERYONE happy here, the industry types, fair weather fans with the bucks etc. and sell tickets, but what about us hardcore fans that have supported the band for YEARS. I don't think that it is asking too much here to have Taylor for more than ONE SONG. I am NOT trying to be negative, I have loved and supported this band for 40 years of my life and understand Mick T and Bill LEFT the band...but not having Taylor play on Wild Horses where his slide play IS the song and instead, have this industry hack up there is just a joke. They are playing Brown Sugar, Tumbling Dice, Wild Horses, etc where Taylor was a significant contributor and the man is backstage picking through cold cuts and drinking a beer....really?

I'm glad that they did ER, but from what I've seen on the video , I'm not fallin' from my chair like most of you and I'm not excited by Mick's falsetto.
It was ok 30 years ago but now, I really hope they will play it better with the shows to come...
it was a first time so let's say it was a try, at least they give us a new live track.
For the rest of the show, MR and Keith's efforts got my vote that's cheap ...

Here's the first one I've read:

Friday's launch of the 50 and Counting tour at Staples Center served as a persuasive reminder of the band's undimmed powers, its admirable commitment to roots, the enduring appeal of its music, the magic of its chemistry and the reason it still holds claim to the title "world's greatest rock 'n' roll band."

Performing 23 songs over 2 1/2 hours before an all-ages capacity crowd, the Stones simply ripped the joint.

No Doubt opened for the Stones at Ford Field in Detroit in 2002, but I have absolutely no recollection of their performance. I was probably still a few blocks away in a bar when they finished their set ....

I'll refrain from commenting on Gwen, Urban, and Mick Taylor playing just one song. But thank you for posting this, you've saved me a lot of money.

Cheers.

Brings back a lot of memories of waiting two years for the follow up to Some Girls, expecting it to be something incredible, and then .... Leo Sayer?

Always interesting to read EVERYONE who attended ecstatic about it being an AWESOME SHOW, while the usual poopy heads sit at home and whine about about it... and whine about set lists... and whine abvout guests... and whine .... and whine.... which is what they seem to be best at.

Great to hear everyone who actually attended thought it was great and they had fun. Too bad we have to wade through so many whiner comments, those who did not even attend, to actually read comments for those who were there.

MT, I love you man, but in the one d@mn song that these greedy bastards are giving you, please stop wasting precious time and energy aping and loping around the stage. Instead, focus on the d@mn guitar. Aping is not your talent; playing that fretboard is. Stand (straight--not hunched over) in yer spot, focus, and break it down for us. Show us once again who is the lyrical maestro. Please.

Great show. Mediocre set list. Need more Mick Taylor, less guest appearances.

Lots of famous and talented artist in the audience diggin' their night out at the Stones show, most of whom would have loved to replace Keith and Gwen on stage, lol.

It be great if they added some local relatively unknown artists for a song at every show to support the next generation of talent and ground them in the legacy of true live Rock and Roll.

Overall I'm really grateful that they entertained me so well. I'm still smilin' today and talking about the show to whomever will listen. I'm surprised how many folks didn't even know they were here and playing shows.!

Not the best Stones show I've seen, I was less than inspired but definately not disappointed. peace

What a thrill having Mick Taylor onboard. Is it my imagination, has he lost a significant amount of weight? Looks great to me.

It is beyond me how that setlist can be called mediocre. It looks like 2 BRAND NEW songs, 1 NEVER played song, Keith's songs were upbeat rockers and a bunch of other great Stones songs. I honestly dont know what people are looking for besides a bunch of esotaric songs which will make 5% of the people delighted and 95% of the crowd scratch their heads.

I might switch out 5 songs, but it is hardly medicore.

I agree, max. Pretty good set-list. I am looking forward to seeing it for myself tomorrow night in Oakland with my friend Swiss.
