Otis did a cool cover of it. Otis could do no wrong, though.

How about this.

While I like his version of Satisfaction, what I hate and will never forgive him for is that the Stones now seem to feel as though every live version of Satisfaction now has to be an homage to that version.

You HAVE your own version, the original!

I'd like to hear the cover of Try Me they cut at Chess in 64.

I'd like to hear it as well. When exactly was it recorded? I can't find any info about it online. If a version does exist, surely it would be available for downloading somewhere, if not on YouTube.

Hidden in the vaults: My Girl Eats Rice Krispies.

Now _that's_ a tune.

Smokey's follow up to Mary Well's -- My Guy that was released earlier in '64
My Girl was written with David Ruffin in mind to handle lead vocals..

Smokey recorded it himself in '69...and also covered by other Motown artists ...Earl Van Dyke ...Marvin Gaye...Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson ...

Not very good, yet somehow Flowers wouldn't be the same without it.

A Loog Oldham/ABKCO idea to cash in on the U.S. market. Probably an outtake, with added string section. Totally forgettable.

One of the very few songs performed by the Original Stones that kind of...suucks. No passion.

Maybe this way of singing about girls fits them better?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I agree that this is not one of their finest moments. And I am not a particular fan of soul. But Jagger can do soul-I've always liked their version of pain in my heart. And "everybody needs somebody" (or whatever it's called). Jagger doing that at the Emmys ( or whatever it was ) last year was great I thought. But fundamentally they are a blues/ rock and roll band and NO ONE beats em for that.

The Stones finest soul/r'n'b covers:

Mona
Can I Get A Witness
Walkin' The Dog
You Can Make It If You Try
Pain In My Heart
Time Is On My Side
Under The Boardwalk
If You Need Me
Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
Hitch Hike
Mercy Mercy
Good Times
Cry To Me
That's How Strong My Love Is
It's All Over Now

For me Cry To Me, That's How Strong My Love Is and It's All Over Now are the stand outs.

Mmmm-walking the dog is hardly soul is it? Classic 12 bar rock n roll if you ask me-Stones version anyway. Very underrated stones cover inmho, dog whistles notwithstanding. Ditto it's all over now- not a 12 bar but it rocks rather than souls. And Mona for that matter

I just don't get, so many people don't think this is a good version, I REALLY LOVE Stones version of My Girl, the same goes with "Under The Boardwalk".
Many people put these songs down, for me they are among Stones finest ballads.
The Radio stations always plays the orignals , I wanna hear Stones version played on the air, they give me so good memories, summer and sunshine.

Under the boardwalk was released as a single in Australia and was big-I remember it being on the radio a lot when I was a kid. One of the first records I purchased with my paperboy money. Still got it somewhere

I said soul/r'n'b - pay attention! tongue sticking out smiley

And Walkin' The Dog ain't rock'n'roll, it's the bouncing rhythm and bass line that makes it r'n'b.

Its a fine line between R&B and Rock n Roll of course. Depends how its played as well. Is Mona r&b or Rock n Roll? One of the best versions of that song is Quicksilver (live) off the Happy Trails album. Pure Rock n Roll!

I don't like the song, but can listen to the Stones version any day. I'd like to see it performed live.

A marvellous song; just not by the Stones. I don't suppose too many outside the United States would've had the misfortune to year this until Flowers recieved the CD treatment.

It's one of their worst-ever covers. I can't stand it, but then I may be in the minority. I don't go for Under The Boardwalk either, but Mercy Mercy, That's How Strong My Love Is, and You Better Move On are good soul covers.
