God Lennon comes off as so jealous. For a supposedly smart guy, he sure could say some dumb things. You read the article and it doesn't even hint at the problems Charlie himself was going through. Plus nobody mentions what a piece of crap album Dirty Work turned out to be. It's also interesting to see all the things that didn't come true. Where's that Robert Johnson movie? Or Mick's film with Bowie? A great time capsule of an article.
Maybe Mick & Keith never did make up, really. Mick realized, probably sadly, that he just couldn't be bigger than the Stones, and that he wasn't all that compelling as an actor, already being typecast as friggin' Mick Jagger. It's all been a marriage of convenience for 30 years. Not so much for the kids, as for the money.

Isn't this the article that claims Keith played a 20-minute guitar solo while Mick was stuck on the cherry picker? Yeah right, that I'd like to hear.

I finally found the original version (SPIN - August 1986) of the article that Philippe Manoeuvre had translated for Liberation in 1986 and that had been a bit of a shock...in essence Nick Kent was telling us the Stones were finished. Actually the translation made that point a bit more obvious but still what a depressing read, especially the parts about Ronnie being virtually out of the band (that part hadn't been translated for some reason).

Good article...spoilt by the usual bollocks from John lennon. That man may have contributed an immense amount of talent to the musical world which will last forever, but he talked such a load of shite. There always was something deeply unpleasant about Lennon, and I'm not talking about that vile midget he hung out with. He really thought he was some sort of seer who could spout words of wisdom which we all would gasp in awe of. In reality he was just a guy from Liverpool who had a talent for song writing and certainly wasn't the idol many have held him up to be. In fact on the whole he was just plain and simply ...silly, a teenage sense of humour, and not all peace and love as he would have you believe. For me it was George who was the true visionary who lived life in accordance with the values he espoused. Rant over.

SURE ! ;-) Did you really "love it" though or did you keep rereading it in shock? I know I didn't like the sound of it...
