TOTA: WHAT the NEUK HAPPENED?

I'm listening to Buffalo 15/6/75 and I've heard earlier shows from June 1975. My question is, what the NEUK happened when the band got to NYC? They sounded 'orrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the rest of the tour was SO deffo hit and miss! The Buffalo soundboard mentioned above.... it sounds like the band is storming the gates of the city; it sounds like they're catching the gate over the moat as it's raised in desperation by the glitterati within.
Even later in the tour, LA for example, SF #2, peut-etre Seattle, Ft. Collins. Was the length and pace of the show too much for Mick? Were Keith and Ronnie getting better acquainted w/one another thorough cocaine/heroin/alcohol/marijuana... you name it...
This tour started out so tight and bright... and ended up sounding like a bad bar band in Rich Stadium on 8th August.
