I just bought a Dylan bootleg with Brown Sugar on it, sung by Dylan. The band was really great. Great guitar play by Larry Cambell. But Dylan's voice on Brown Sugar was really crap.

Mothers Little Helper - Tesla - A great version from their Five Man Acoustical Jam album, which I believe would be the first "unplugged" album. They also do great versions of Signs, Lodi, Truckin and We Can Work It Out. Not a huge fan of the band but I would recommend this album to anyone.

Devo - Satisfaction

I saw Devo play this live in 1978, and the visuals of their performanece alone are enough to make this the winner for me. Completey chaotic nerdy little space-men with plastic red hats, and their musical abilities were definitely high-quality and cutting edge . And not to mention the insane fuzzy guitar lead, like a robotic out of control buzz-saw.

I agree with Rockman, Otis Redding's cover of Satisfaction, as he performed at Monterrey Pop Festival, was so definitive that the Stones spent the next few years trying to cover HIS cover of their own song!!!! Otis showed them how to really do it!!

Leon Russell's version of JJF at the Bangla Desh Benefit really tore the roof offa the place.

However, I saw Marianne Faithfull on 6/10/90 at The Backstage in Seattle. She and Barry Reynolds (acoustic guitar) performed a version of 'Wild Horses' that transcended anything I've ever heard live.

Otherwise, definitely Satisfaction by Otis.

There is a cover of "moonlibht Mile" on one of the Blues-Stones albums by thus dude whose name I can never remember. But it is surely one of the best covers.

The cover of "Moonlight Mile" is by Alvin "Youngblood" Hart and, as difficult as it is to say this, on some days I think that it surpasses the original (which is one of my top Stones tracks ever).

I have said it once and I will say it again here: Townes Van Zandt's version of "Dead Flowers" (from his "Roadsongs" album and featured prominently in "The Big Lebowski" is an incredible record. Again, it is in some ways superior to the Stones' version.
