So the main album being showcased in rehearsals is Some Girls with every song having been played.

Did you see Lies in that part? Then "every song" from Some Girls has not been played at the rehearsals. That's some nitpicky shit but if you're going to say something at least be accurate about it.

Jigsaw Puzzle has been a part of my signature on this board for eons, and in a number of my posts dating back to the LICKS Tour, along with I Just Wanna See His Face, as THE song I would like to hear this band do live.

I do have one additiona now, though - "Turd on the Run". Wouldn't that be a friggin gas, gas, gas?

I've been artisticwise rather critical towards "Vegas Era", and I understand the point that if one has such a catalog, it is sensible to pick up the best ones...

But still... come on!

Since TATTOO YOU The Stones have released six million-selling albums (and quick minds can count how many news songs there are), made numerous hugest ever tours in human history breaking every record, and what is the score: 2 bloody numbers they think are worth of rehearsing! TWO!!! Are they joking?

Shit, and I'd been harsh when putting down the last 30 years, but that total ignorance they lately have exercised (CROSSFIRE HURRICANE) starts to like old-Soviet-like rewriting of history... Or do they need to be so honest when judging the past...grinning smiley

And they are right: is there anyone here missing post-TATTOO YOU songs? Right... not even the toughest of the die-hards who say to love VOODOO LOUNGE or A BIGGER BANG so much, are not making any noise... When it comes to 'chosing' the set list, the charm of the new albums quickly fades away....

No no; I am not complaining at all - I am just stunned how obvious it all is now, how 'pure nostalgia', acccepted by all fronts, and how clearly the history - the real story - is to be seen now (and how little the last 30 years actually matter)... finally.

- Doxa

What you bring up is valid though, especially when held up to the light of why Mick uses the excuse of "we're a forward moving band" and all that tripe for excuses for the Stones still "rolling". It's totally a nostalgia act. Which is fine. There's nothing wrong with that, except when someone acts like that is not the case. There are plenty of songs in the catalogue to play that have never been played or seldom played or only played on one tour.

I would like to see songs post TATTOO YOU in a set list. Mainly because I do think they've put good songs out, even some great ones, since that LP. Yet no matter how good or great those songs might be, there are so many prior to those, and with the set-in-concrete warhorses that just have to be played, there isn't much room for all of the unknowns etc. So of course the more loved or liked 'classic' unknowns will get a shot. But do we really need to hear Can't You Hear Me Knocking again? It's cool they managed it somewhat for he LICKS tour but really, stick to Midnight Rambler if you're going to do something long and that doesn't require much finesse from the string section.

Regardless of all that, these two new songs are simply a excuse, nothing more, for them to feel only 1% bad about releasing yet another best of/greatest hits compialiton that NOBODY needs.

And of all acts for Mick to slag off over the years, The Beach Boys, at least they put out a new album (although they haven't for how long? Then again, the actual Beach Boys hadn't toured for how long? And I'm guessing it was close to the time of their last album possibly). The Stones put out a new album for their last tour but essentially ignored it.

Way to move forward, Mick.

I'm underwhelmed by their choices. As the post Wyman stage years have gone on, the only thrill left was for the few choice rarities. They needed to dig deep, King Bee, Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man, etc. Even the 'rarities' they're rehearsing have been played out as rarities. Going To A Go Go? They have such a deep catalogue. I'm so sick of Sympathy. If there's a tour I'm finding it harder to find reasons to get excited about seeing them.

"They needed to dig deep, King Bee, Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man, etc"

You just can't play these rarities in an arena. They'd flop and the gig would lose its momentum. The recipe is 70% hits 30% lesser-known songs... unless you're Dylan!

Plus I think "Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man" is a "song" they'd rather forget forever... Remember it was a joke in the 1st place.

Why introduce an other new song? They won't play (on stage) this one anyway.

I think it's to keep the Stones live "machine" well-oiled.

Now that they're reasonably well-rehearsed and they've shaped-up a potential setlist for the London shows, they can afford to dig in their catlogue for songs that (like you said) won't be played in front of an audience.

If we follow that train of thoughts tomorrow's rehearsals (the last ones) might bring nice rarities... "Wanna See His Face" "Winter" "Emotional Rescue"

Apparantly, Buddy Guy's Five Long Years was rehearsed yesterday, before the fans were let in. Buddy is becoming the inspirational bluesman for them, since they've done Champagne and Reefer earlier.

Champagne & Reefer is not a Buddy Guy song. Wish they'd do a blues they haven't done live before like I'm a King Bee, or anything else, so much to choose from.

"It's all over now..."

The last day of rehearsals closed with among 50 ppl waiting outside, waiting for another miracle... that didn't happen. This time the gates (of Eden?) didn't open.

The good part is what we heard from the outside was pretty good and strong even for an informal rehearsal. Only BS was imo a bit weak. The closer was SFTD (iirc).

Naysayers plz notice that each band member had his car window rolled down on the way out so we could briefly talk to them and take some pix. They were extremely relaxed and they seemed pretty pleased with what they had done.

On the band "mood-ometer" what I saw/heard would rank a solid 8.5 : it bodes pretty well for London. thumbs up
