Mostly OT: Hippie Jeans (including Keith's tiny toadstool)

1) Keith as far as I know was the only member of the Stones to ever be
photographed in patched hippie jeans, in Annie Leibowitz's famous shot from
the 1972 tour. I call them Keith's "tiny toadstool" jeans.

2) Of course the most famous hippie jeans belonged to Neil Young, showcased on
1971's After The Goldrush album. But horror of horrors, the buzz on the internet
is that they were artificially distressed and created by an S.F. fashion
designer, and thus are not genuine hippie jeans, which must be created
over time by either the wearer or their old lady. Still cool though, and
very influential.

3) Here's a genuine pair from the Oakland California Museum of Art, worn and
created by a Miss Lorna Doone 1968-1975.

4) And here's a pair from the Vancouver Musuem of Art, worn and created by
Mr. Ron Kong 1971-1975.

5) This pair is from the Smithsonian, with no further attribution available.

6) And this last and perhaps greatest known pair of hippie jeans was worn
and created by Mr. Thomas Hammerken 1968-1975 (with the assistance of the first
Mrs Hammerken). These jeans attended three Rolling Stones shows: Detroit 1969,
New York 1972, and St. Paul 1975.

Ingredients: 1968 Levis blue jeans, antique Bulgarian peasant belt, various
woven commercial trims mostly from the remnant bin at an East Lansing fabric
store, black leather from my beloved cabretta leather robert-deniro-in-mean-
streets jacket from when I was an honorary NJ Italian in high school, brown
leather from the first two wallets I ever owned, converted to bell bottoms with
denim from a skirt belonging to my first wife, cowrie shells from a choker/
necklace I wore 1970-72, an old US Post Office official patch from the jacket
of a retiring co-worker, cotton embroidery, a military gold star, resist-
bleached replacement pocket 1974, and finally I managed to locate my
long-wished-for Stones patch in a head shop also 1974.

Although of course I was not yet known as Super Revvy way back then, my jeans
beat me to it, as they were known far and wide as "Tom's Super Jeans".
