OT: Carole King`s "Tapestry" ,do you dig?
Posted by: noughties ()
Date: September 29, 2012 02:15

I`m not getting this. I think it`s highly overrated. It`s full of fillers. What where you people thinking in the early 70s? Is this it? Be my guest! I think music should be a widescreen experience, just like Pink Floyd`s "Another Brick In The Wall Part Two", geddit? This music just leaves me cold. Was this album really the soundtrack for home alone parties in the early 70s?

I bought it only a few years ago. It is iconic and I understand all the hubbub initially, but admittedly doesn't get a lot of spins from me.

I dig it. First class songwriting. Every act was inspired by it. A whole songwriter movement followed it. Proff: Mick Jagger's ballads on Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock n Roll.

Love playing it on wax--"doesnt anybody stay in one place anymore?"

Another solid oldie from that era is three dog night--Shambala.

Burn some brown weed, drink some ripple.

American Pie - Don McLean.

Another unassuming (but brilliant) singer/songwriter classic from the same period.

Why he went on to host Crackerjack I'll never know.

I wouldn`t argue with any of the posts, but The GR`s definetely into something when saying "Like it but don`t love it".

Nice songs, particularly for the time.

That said she's no Chuck Leavell when it comes to playing the piano.

Don't blame me, I was thinking anything in the 70's. I never owned it, but it has many good/great songs from one of the best in the business.

What songs do you think are fillers?

And off topic, what do you think of the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album? Many people think it's overrated and many think it's a Masterpiece (as I do)?

No. Explain the widescreen part.

Well, fillers? Up until now it has been "So Far Away", "Home Again", "Beautiful" and "Where You Lead" The fine songs are "I Feel The Earth Move", "It`s To Late", "You`ve Got A Friend", "Tapestry", and "A Natural Woman". The others are somewhere in between.

Pet Sounds? - Fine with me. I`ve (got) the LP. - Maybe a bit overrated, especially if you rate it among the three best albums of all time.

Well, larger than life, see? Just as if the music comes from a sleeping dinosaur that only dispenses a small part of it`s capacaty. I don`t want to diss people playing in an other vein, but at the spur of the moment, that was just the farthest opposite I could think of.

I like only one song from that record. Home Again. The piano lick she does after the punchline and in the intro is pretty damn good.

Correction: I friggin' LOVE that song. Great songwriter, great performer, great song from that record. peace

"So Far Away" is filler? You apparently don't really know what filler is, then, do you?

Well, filler is filler, am I right? You know, those songs! Madonna`s albums are full of them.

This is -71, right? A more golden year. -Should be reason for expecting something great. Those I called "fillers" sounded very 1972 to me.

It helps if you bought it at the time, as those of who did still have very fond memories of some great songs.

Yes, it's a classic.
