Hell Yeah!!!

Some of these tracks underscore how great "Paint It Black" and "Norwegian Wood" were.

Post rarities you know!

Well, Vanilla Fudge added quite a bit of color to this Motown number

If you're into psych check out this great English band, Factory, who only cut a handful of songs around 67/68. This one called Path Through The Forest is pretty amazing.

Pretty cool sound, love the psychedilic era of pop music. Video (whoever made it) is nice, too!

Hmmm ... some good picks in there, but where are the "exotic", unusual instruments?
The Fudge and Butterfly are outside the parameters.

I'm trying to find some tunes that have balls, so my initial post got kinda wimpy.
That track by Things to Come is new to me, so I've been playing the heck outta it!

While not all of these are "exotic," they represent a certain unexpected stretching of the pop boundaries surrounding Raider Nation...

Silver Dagger: Cool track, what's the unusual instrument there?

Schillid: Silver Apples, yeah! They're a newer discovery for me ...
LOVE "Oscillations", it's going on a Halloween set I'm making.

Droog: The Raiders had a LOT of stuff that never gets heard.

Here are some more, trying to think of odd things but these more
mainstream tunes come to mind:

The autoharp is all over the place here. Sebastian loved playing it!
Since we have a great thread on The Spoonful, why not?

Now, I always wondered about that "flute". It's actually an ocarina,
an egg-shaped ceramic instrument with holes all about it.

It sounds as if a sitar was used on record, but the guitarist is holding
something else! Kinda makes me wonder if Skunk Baxter really played that
sitar on "Do It Again" ... also, is that a tack piano here?

Now, I know various metal heads have employed power tools on the LPs,
such as an electric drill passed along a fret board, but rarely have the
bagpipes ever been used to good effect. But somehow, AC/DC did it!

I love Paul Revere & the Raiders. They are incredibly underrated over here in the UK - don't think they ever had any hits in Europe. But that song I Hear A Voice is amazing - it shimmers and hangs there like a bell ringing in the sky, man!

BTW - their singles Him Or Me (What's It Gonnas Be) and The Great Airplane Strike 1967 almost out Stones the Stones for that mid-60s classic pop sound.

"The Great Airplane Strike" has a killer intro ... one of their best.
Have a weakness for "Indian Reservation" too.

Love Love - I have the double CD - "Love Story 1966-1972" which I highly recommend to anybody who's into this band. I believe most of the band is now gone (RIP), so don't look for a reunion any time soon.

They're all gone now in fact--Arthur Lee was the last of the original band and he toured a version of Love until the mid-2000s. His 2003 Forever Changes Concert (from London's Royal Albert Hall) is on CD/DVD and is recommended.

They also recorded a track with Jimi Hendrix dating from around 1970. I will have to find this and post it, from their fifth album, I believe.

Had the album/CD since it first came out. Turn it over and listen to "Flowers And Beads" or "My Mirage" - Love it. Also check out the "Metamorphosis" album from 1970. Eric Brann (RIP) left and was replaced by Mike Pinera and El Rhino (RIP). Some great tunes that also have a sitar on them giving it that exotic coloring.
