I've reluctantly agreed to allow my wife to set up a Facebook page for me. So far I have 1 friend; my wife. You're welcome to click on it, but don't expect me to "friend" you or "like" you, or whatever it is people do on Facebook. I kinda like the idea of having the world's most pathetic Facebook page, with only a single "follower", and extremely rare updates which make little sense. I think it's funny.

Sorry don't have one and never will....putting your personal info out for ALL to see forever is just idiotic! Get a real life!

Not for all to see, only your friends. And you can adjust the settings and choose what you want to share.
When I wanna chat with my brother in law in California, for instance, FB is a great tool. Anyways, each to their own

Please excuse my ignorance but what's the advantage over email?

Oh right, so it's like being on the phone except writing, so you don't send a message and have to wait for a reply because you're both there on it at the same time, ok thanks......

Some people are stupid and have posted the dumbest stuff on FB.
Stuff about hating your company and/or boss is going to get around.
Teachers posting about being "off my face last nite" is also stupid.
I can't believe how thick some people are.
It's a friggin public forum, "friends of friends" see your stuff - people you don't know.
Use with caution.
Never post on it after a bottle of wine.

Totally agree, that's the aspect of it that would concern me me most. I think it would be fair to say that most of us have friends who do not necessarily all know each other and/or belong in the same circle. In that respect, something you share or do with one, isn't necessarily something you'd be inclined to share or do with another. That's just a fact of life, folk are different. What turns one person's crank doesn't turn another. Why on earth you'd want your life and your friends to be so openly exposed to viewing by - as you say - an army of "friends of friends", I don't rightly know. But I do think that you're potentially opening yourself up to having more known about you or thought about you than you'd probably wish. If you don't mind that, great. If you do, then there's unquestionably an element of risk in plastering yourself on FB. I seem to recall lots of stories in the press and even on this message board about "controls", about "default settings" etc, I think a lot of people have been caught out by it over the years since it came into being, and have since somewhat regretted subscribing to it quite so openly and enthusiastically.
I'm not knocking it per se, if it works for YOU personally - fine. Go with it. It just ain't for ME, and I suspect also not for a few more than think alike.

This is the case ONLY when you don't adjust your settings. If you don't allow friends of friends to see your posts, they won't see it.

I do recall however nothing short of blazing rows - and indeed the press latched onto this - over the issue of "default" settings. This I think was where a fair few people got caught out. Whatever ?

again with the insults. this place really seems on edge lately. it seems to be dominated by morons who post on f/b because they are desperately seeking attention...although why anyone would be attracted to anyone so desperate and pathetic as to reveal meaningless information about such a miserable life is beyond my comprehension.
