I've reluctantly agreed to allow my wife to set up a Facebook page for me. So far I have 1 friend; my wife. You're welcome to click on it, but don't expect me to "friend" you or "like" you, or whatever it is people do on Facebook. I kinda like the idea of having the world's most pathetic Facebook page, with only a single "follower", and extremely rare updates which make little sense. I think it's funny.

Sorry don't have one and never will....putting your personal info out for ALL to see forever is just idiotic! Get a real life!

Not for all to see, only your friends. And you can adjust the settings and choose what you want to share.

When I wanna chat with my brother in law in California, for instance, FB is a great tool. Anyways, each to their own smiling smiley

Also news feeds, e-mails and events - band pages, videos, music +++ much more.

Some people are stupid and have posted the dumbest stuff on FB.

Stuff about hating your company and/or boss is going to get around.

Teachers posting about being "off my face last nite" is also stupid.

I can't believe how thick some people are.

It's a friggin public forum, "friends of friends" see your stuff - people you don't know.

Use with caution.

Never post on it after a bottle of wine.

Totally agree, that's the aspect of it that would concern me me most. I think it would be fair to say that most of us have friends who do not necessarily all know each other and/or belong in the same circle. In that respect, something you share or do with one, isn't necessarily something you'd be inclined to share or do with another. That's just a fact of life, folk are different. What turns one person's crank doesn't turn another. Why on earth you'd want your life and your friends to be so openly exposed to viewing by - as you say - an army of "friends of friends", I don't rightly know. But I do think that you're potentially opening yourself up to having more known about you or thought about you than you'd probably wish. If you don't mind that, great. If you do, then there's unquestionably an element of risk in plastering yourself on FB. I seem to recall lots of stories in the press and even on this message board about "controls", about "default settings" etc, I think a lot of people have been caught out by it over the years since it came into being, and have since somewhat regretted subscribing to it quite so openly and enthusiastically.

I'm not knocking it per se, if it works for YOU personally - fine. Go with it. It just ain't for ME, and I suspect also not for a few more than think alike.

You're right.

But not everyone understands the settings thing - more people now perhaps after the publicity.

BUT... I'll tell you this.

I have ALWAYS kept my YouTube account and my FB account seperate.

There is NOTHING on my YouTube account that has my real name on it - deliberately so.

HOWEVER... last.fm seem to have created a page (without my consent) with my Facebook picture and my real name linked to my recordings on my YouTube account... with some blurb about how I am "a singer/songwriter from... etc"

I was absolutely shocked when I saw it.

So it's not as private as you think and you should read the smallprint of the terms and conditions.

Yeah, there are a few puzzling settings, like friends of friends can see pictures you "like" etc. Personal info is not included here, though. However, one shouldn't post personal info anywhere, right smiling smiley

Facebook has it's good points and bad, like anything else. I agree with those who have said you have to be careful what you post, it is a public forum and it's very easy for anyone to see what you are up to so you need to be careful with your settings. I know of someone who was denied a security clearance because of something he posted about Obama. I post sporadically, more in the summers when I am off work. It can quickly become like junk mail if you aren't careful with who you friend. I get lots of religious and political stuff that I can do without. I am really amazed sometimes at some of the personal stuff people put out there. As for me, the reason I joined IORR was to have a place I can openly share my Stones obsession, something I don't feel comfortable doing on FB. On FB I am connected with family, work associates, my kids, my kids friends, people from all walks of my life, some of whom would find it weird to know how much I love the Rolling Stones. I don't mind if people here know what I look like or other personal information about me, but I like the fact that I can be more open here than on FB about a lot of things, so for now, I want to keep it separate. I do hope to meet some of you someday if the Stones ever tour again!

Irony and sarcasm, my specialties, don't often come acrross well in written form, so please don't ever take me too seriously. Sorry if it seems I occasionally cross the line, but I would never set out to be deliberately hurtful. As for facebook, maybe it is a little ridiculous, but so is this place at times.
