OT / PC Speakers
Date: August 14, 2012 18:28

listening to the stones or music generally on the pc can be a enjoyable or a crummy experience, seems to depend on the speakers

what do you have, are they any good, and what do you recommend?

mine just recently crapped out (cambridge soundworks cubes with a small sub - which sounded great for pc speakers, but the volume control is kinda cheap and crappy and thats what went) but I don't think they manufacture that line anymore, couldnt find them at least, so i bought a new pair, bose companion 2 they are called. i have a full stereo system with bose speakers (cube array and bass module system) that I bought 20 years ago and it still sounds great, so i trust the name (unlke some other people) but i have no reason not to

so if you're in the market i would give a shout out to the companion 2 series - good price at $99 - decent, full sound and separation, automatic tone adjustment so no mucking about necessary, overall more than good enough sound quality at a decent price for pc speakers

I don't want to upset you or anyone but let me be the first to speak up and say, Bose is horrible. The tones are unnatural, speakers wont actually get loud... Incredibly overpriced with poor results.

I'd rather have a pair of bookshelf speakers ($50 from Goodwill) and an old amp from the 80s (another $20 from Goodwill) than any bose product!

Is money an issue? ....http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HS80M/

Two HS80Ms and a paired sub, and you'll never buy another set ever again. Your neighbors will be knocking on your door, asking to come enjoy the concert!

Yep, avoid Bose. Their only positive point is their marketing division.

i've heard that, knocking bose is commonplace, flamewars exist all over the place on that topic, but i've gotta say knocking bose just doesn't ring true for me, from my ownership experience. maybe for others its different, but i've had a bose acoustimass system for about two decades, bought after sound testing and comparing EVERYTHING out there in its price class, and yes although i admit that part of the reason for buying was for size accomodations, and that yes it is my secondary home sound system (KEF and Paradigm loudspeakers in my main system) but the Bose system sounded great when i bought it, and it still does. if it sounded like crap i'd say so, i have no allegiance to the company. but truthfully people that hear it are still knocked out by it. i mean floored. crisp highs, rich mids and deep full but not over riding bass. great separation. full soundstage. IMO you get a great sounding system, that you can pound on, and it lasts. thats my experience with it, so i cant knock it.

some people hate KEF too, or Paradigm, Vienna Acoustics, Polk.. or or or .. there a million of em out there... doesn't mean they suck, though..

"Best" is in the ear of the beholder...

the Bose pc speakers are just fine, too. for pc listening. which aint the greatest no matter what

i'm just curious what others use or would recommend, not bash

I bought the BOSE radio for my kitchen as it was all the wife would allow there and IT IS her area LOL but I think it's pretty disappointing - can't even adjust the bass or treble.

I have Bose Companion® 5 multimedia speakers connected to my computer. If you will watch movies on your computer they are a better option than the Companion® 3 multimedia speaker system, as the former offer simulated surround sound. I'm a bit of a hi-fi aficionado and sure Bose are not the best product for pure sound quality, they are reliable, with a robust construction and have excellent service support.

If you are willing to spend upwards of £250.00 (or equivalent in $), I'd recommend Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) Nautilus speakers at £55,000 a pair...... but seriously, their B&W MM-1s are pretty cool as desktop speakers, but come in at a premium price - around £400.00.

Further down the cost spectrum Q Acoustics 2020i get good feedback and retail for circa £160.00.

Cheers,
SonicD

I have been using Bose for 25 years now, I think they sound fantastic. But if I really want to hear music loud, I use my active monitor system.

Here you will maybe find what you need:
Teufel.de
It is German it it means "Devil"
I've got a lot of Sympathy for the "Devils"

I use the -Concept E 400 Digital "5.1-Set"- for my PC- and it sounds great! But a good Sound is also depending on your soundcard!

It`s nice to be here, .....

yeah my pc is pretty old so the sound card sure aint updated. but i think the bose companions do most of the processing in the speaker, anyway. i didnt want to have to dick around with all that sound card stuff; for pc speakers i am happy

i m not sure you even need a sound card to run these speakers

RE: 'I have Bose Companion® 5 multimedia speakers connected to my computer.'

yeah i saw those there too, thought they sounded great

thanks for the feedback... B&W etc.. good stuff..most people I know have Logitech pc speakers or something... dont sound too good at all.. yeah its only the pc but i think you still want a modicum of decent sound..

I got some small system to plug in to my computer (and HD) that gets a decent volume to it. I need to get one that goes louder. It has a woofer so the bass can be changed directly. It wasn't much but it sounds fine. Logitech.
