No, you don't sound like an angry, repressesd over-compinsating closet homosexual at all.[/quote]

Wow, that's an interesting correlation. I'm gay because I don't like the Grateful Dead. So you're saying that gay people have better musical taste than Deadheads. All right. And I agree whole heartedly with HOUND DOG that the Grateful Dead held Jerry back.

And please, aren't Deadheads supposed to be peaceful, forgiving people? Aren't they supposed to be higher consciously than the rest of us Grateful Dead un-enthusiasts? I would look in the mirror to see the angry and repressed. And isn't your tone a bit anti-gay? Tsk, tsk. I'm beginning to see Deadheads in a whole new way that I've always seen them. Long live the Rolling Stones.

Thanks for posting, never saw this before.

Did you see this comment on YouTube for this video. I wonder if 24FPS is this poster (ThorXMK)!

Why the hell would Pete play with these losers?

Pete and Jerry were friends and The Who and The did some shows together in Oakland 73??

Pete told Jerry at one point that he was depressed having to play the same show over and over again unlike the GD.

It is a bit odd that people feel compelled to enter an OT post with subject matter that they knowingly dislike just to rain on someone else's parade and multiple times in one poster's case?

Meanwhile the show by The Who is available on DVD whereas the one by the Dead still isn“t unfortunately.

It is odd. He's probably just some Rolling Stones fan (and we know what they're like) who doesn't get the Grateful Dead. I understand he's fascinated by how angry Deadhead's get when you attack their band or anything about them. From other posts I've read of his he's expressed disgust when acquaintances have tried to push Grateful Dead music on him. He always makes some smartass comment that except for their musicianship, vocals and lyrics, he has nothing against the band. Then he mutters something about patchouli and he goes back into his repressed closet. If we could just get him to hear Franklin's Tower, he'd Roll Away the Dew.

Well at least one thing you aren't, 24FPS, and that's boring.
And I'm not a "deadhead" or a "hippie". I dig Dead songs, Dead boots, etc. Just Like I LOVE The Stones. Just like everyone here.

I saw this show (Oakland '76) The Dead opened the show at 11:00am played three hours followed by The Who....I was so mellow from The Dead and when The Who opened their set with I Can't Explain it was like a sonic boom slap in the face..Two of my favorite bands at opposite sides of the music style spectrum.

This thread is hilarious. This GD love or hate thing plays out across the world in strange and funny ways. I have been in bands with Dead Head musicians before and we usually had a rule, NO Dead songs. Only because the folks who love them and play tend to drift into that zone because that's where there heart is. It's always cause big smiles, nothing adversarial.

I love the Dead for their fearlessness and because they were lifestyle outlaws as much as I do for the occasionally magic music. They made the world a bit more tolerable place for the legions of loons and freaks that followed.

My favorite tracks has always been Terrapin Station, some would say the least Dead of Dead album tracks. Live it was something else of course. peace

I'm not a big fan of Jerry Garcia or the Dead, but you've absolutely got to love Jerry's guitar playing on this Graham Nash song--it made me go out and buy the album!

Was that him playing steel? Not exactly up there with Sneaky Pete Kleinow or anything. I kept waiting for something extraordinary and it never happened. I'm telling you, I don't have Dead Ears.

Yes, that was him on the steel guitar. The extraordinary thing is how the steel guitar serves the song by supporting the mood and the feeling of it. I don't know what you were expecting, but it's an excellent track. Perhaps if you didn't know it was Jerry Garcia playing, you might have liked the song, as you seemed to have been listening not with Dead Ears, but with biased ones.

Fantastic groove by Jerry on this and some beautiful harmonies on IKYR:

And a fantastic blue grass electric rumble with this one, and some damn fine weaving.

I guess the hardest thing to explain to a hard core Dead Head is that I truly don't like the sound of the band. And I truly am not impressed by Jerry's guitar playing. Think of it as starting at point zero, and everytime I hear Dead music, or someone tries to show me with some song how wrong my ears must be, it pushes my Dead Mind backwards into deeper and deeper negative territory.

Is it really that unfathomable that someone, somewhere, me, might not like a certain rock group? Are we supposed to love each and every one of them? Most women I know can't stand Bob Dylan singing. But I don't push more Bob Dylan on them. I have friends who don't like me playing so much Rolling Stones. I also don't like Styx or Rush, but they seem easier to avoid than the Grateful Dead because of their disciples. And there must be a lot of people who don't like the Grateful Dead. How many hit records did they have? Your average rock fan could maybe name 3 Dead songs, Truckin', Ridin' That Train or whatever it's title is, and Touch of Gray, because of that video on MTV.

Please love your group, take it Furthur, man. But don't push it on other people who don't care, or are turned off by it. And least of all don't be angry and hateful because somebody else doesn't dig your trip. Think of it as keeping all the jugband music to yourself. Lucky you, unenlightened me. I'll muddle through. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out Peace on ya.

All the years combine, they melt into a dream,
A broken angel sings from a guitar.
In the end there's just a song comes cryin up the night
Thru all the broken dreams and vanished years.
Stella blue. stella blue.

When all the cards are down, there's nothing left to see,
There's just the pavement left and broken dreams.

In the end there's still that song comes cryin like the wind.
Down every lonely street that's ever been
Stella blue. stella blue.

Ive stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel, can't win for trying.
Dust off those rusty strings just one more time,
Gonna make them shine, shine

It all rolls into one and nothing comes for free,
There's nothing you can hold, for very long.
And when you hear that song come crying like the wind,
It seems like all this life was just a dream.
Stella blue. stella blue.

You must live in some bizzaro universe. I know many people who would say quite the opposite.

RIP brother

And I know just as many who consider Deadland the bizzaro universe. Where music that hurts most people's eardrum with curdled vocals and badly played covers are magically transformed into other people's ears as actual music. It's a funny world.
So I guess their is no chance that you could actually mind your own business and shut the @#$%& up?

You just have to ignore this guy. He jumps into EVERY thread that mentions the Grateful Dead or Jerry and throws out his adversarial barbs! just hasn't ever gotten over that he missed the bus!

You know, while I completely disagree with 24FPS's opinion of The Dead, I can actually relate to how people trying to pursuade him to dig it can have the opposite effect.

I've felt the exact same way about three bands over the years; bands that have done nothing for me at all, and the brow-beating I've gotten for it.
R.E.M., The Doors and Pearl Jam to be precise.

"How can you be a fan of classic rock and not like The Doors - what's WRONG with you?"
I guess my problem is that I'm unable to stomach Morrison's pretentious psuedo poetry?

"I guess you're just unable to 'get' Michael Stipe?"
I guess I don't get how being a pioneer of Casterated Whine-Rock is a good thing?

"You don't understand - Pearl Jam is the only group that's mattered in the last 20 years!"
One word - Jeremy. Melodramatic barf. Pass.

I try not to make it a habit of posting my hatred of these bands in any OT threads here, but it's very, very difficult for me not to.

Yes. Posting ever crappier songs and inane lyrics won't help. Robert Crumb hated the Dead, but Dead Heads still enjoy his drawings. Maybe they don't know that R. Crumb took Dead Money for doing album covers while disliking the music inside. That's funny, and true. Hate R. Crumb for a while.

See, I'm not pissed because James F. Douglas doesn't like the Doors, a band I'm particularly fond of. And I get how Morrison could come off as pretentious, but hey, some of it was brilliant. To me. Now I have to go before someone posts an embarrasing song from the Dead's Disco Era. (That's right, they sold out, badly).
