You know I've read the Chuck bashing on here for years now. Mainly the "tinkling, honk tonk" comments. I do tend to agree that what I hear on Stones boots with Chuck's playing - does leave a little to be desired to my ears.
That said take a listen to Chuck's style of playing for other bands. How about his contributions to the Allman Brothers or for that matter Eric Clapton's Unplugged. I don't hear the "tinkling honky tonk" sound there to my ears. I hear some beautiful melodic piano runs. Take a listen to his solo on "Old Love" from Clapton's Unplugged gig. Stunning stuff.
Maybe the "tinkling honky tonk" is what Jagger and Richards are requiring for the sound that they want from Chuck. Anyone ever stop and think about that?
Also it would appear that he is the director on live Stones shows. Is it not Chuck that comes up with the set lists in addition to other duties between Stones concerts.
