Opinions Needed Re: 1970/71 Live Versions of Songs

Hello all,
I am putting together a compilation of the 1970/1971 tours. I personally think the Stones were at the top of their game on both of these tours. I've also felt these tours never really go the press they deserved. Greenfield wrote that piece for Rolling Stone that was in David Dalton's book but that is really all I've seen about it.

I would like to get your opinions of the best performances of the songs played during these tours.

I mean, I love JJF from Some Like it Hot-Paris 1970. The intro is killer.
What other shows have excellent performances from 1970? I only have Paris, Malmo, and Berlin.

Same with 1971. We all have Leeds but frankly I think the Roundhouse show was hotter although the quality of the recording is poor.

Thoughts on this tour?

Thanks!!

I absolutely love the '71 version of Satusfaction. I love the absence of the riff, the emphasis on rhythm, the funkiness of it, and the way Mick sings it. Vey distinct and never done like that again.

dead flowers from these tours is great as is midnight rambler---Cologne and Essen are two really good gigs and in decent sound quality....Rome,Amsterdam, and the other '70 shows are mostly good shows but atrocious sounding...'71 take on 'satisfaction' is also quite different and it's a shame more isn't available from that year..

The best 1970 boot by far is from the Essen show. You can hear it all on my YT-channel:

Here's part one, part two, three and four you can find yourself:

As far as the 1971 Tour concerned: I have a recording of Roundhouse which sounds pretty good too.

Love, LOVE the 70/71 tours. What would I give for a tops recording from that time.
Or sound in the silent video.
Jagger's moves look very much like the 72 tour already. Put him in a jumpsuit and a little more make-up.

I wish I knew more of this period also. Is the lack of a great recording (other than Leeds) the result of the band not recording themselves much? the limited amount of dates? poor sound in the venues?

can't remember which night, but "Sympathy" from Paris '70 is terrific, totally intense.

Silly question, but did they record the rest of the show "Let It Rock" was taken from, and if so, why haven't we heard it?

That's Leeds 71, the well known mono radio broadcast.

A few songs are missing, though. JJF and Carol/Roll Over Beethoven come to mind.

JJF and Live With Me propably, those were the songs usually played 71 right before Dead Flowers, the first song of the boot!

While we are on this subject........I remember seeing a picture in David Dalton's first Stones book where MJ was dancing with a number of topless women on stage. His costume appeared to be from 1970....he was wearing the neck collar he wore in 69.

Anyone know the story behind this episode?

Wrong. I don't and I don't know anyone that does. IS the version of Satisfaction you are talking about similar, overall, to the 1969 version?

More copies of Leeds 71 have been sold than of No Security and Live Licks combined.
