OT- James Bond Escorts Queen to Olympics

It would have to be the photo of the century two British Institutions James Bond (Daniel Craig) walking alongside the Queen inside Buckingham Palace on their way to the opening of the Olympics ceremony.

The photo and video are on James Bonds facebook

Loved it. It's a shame the Stones didn't play any part but it was cool that the UK's contribution to popular music was celebrated in such a big way. I loved the fact that the end of Dark Side Of The Moon was used for the lighting of the Olympic cauldron.

What happened with MCartney's intro. Sounded like there were tapes playing or something and then he seemed to drop a few lines. It sounded a bit odd and his voice is definitely going.

Yes - definitely out of sync with the rest of the band (or maybe a backing tape?) for several lines at the start of Hey Jude. Perhaps those who understand these things have some ideas about which piece of kit let him down - feedback speakers maybe? He certainly wasn't hearing what the crowd were hearing. And definitely sounding a bit hoarse and scratchy.

That said, he was about the only part of the evening that I didn't enjoy - I was expecting the usual tedious solemnities of an opening ceremony but it turned out so lively and so funny - loved the "doves" on their bicycles and the punks jumping up and down to Pretty Vacant, among many other things.

I thought the McCartney thing was a delayed playback from the mixing desk (or the BBC).

Paul definitely started the song first... then it was repeated (it sounded identical to me) back two bars later with increased volume.

Someone switched whatever it was off after a few bars.

There is no doubt he and the band were 100% live after that so I think they were before.

I don't think it was a backing track (unless it was for a "Live Aid" type emergency, but then you would get sync problems).

I'm sick of the "he's past it" comments on various forums. He was Ok... he's done better he's done worse. He was Ok.

I thought the whole ceremony was terrible except for a few moments (Mr Bean for one).

When did half a ceromony comprising of video clips become acceptable?

I bet most of the world were going "WTF?"

I was flipping thru the channels and came upon a bunch of women dressed as Mary Poppins dancing around. Asking myself "WTF is this?" I watched for a few minutes and determined the whole spectacle was overblown, pompous horsesh-t. My recorded episode of DALLAS had far and away more redeeming value.

The tape delayed US broadcast was absolutely destroyed by the useless unstopping commentary of the 2 idiots that think its all about them. They spoke over the music they spoke over the intros they talked, talked talked...Just destroyed it. Good work NBC. Add to that a commercial break every 5 minutes and the thing had no rhythm or suspense.

Then NBC starts off Saturday morning with women's basketball?

Who is running that trainwreck over there?

The Bond bit was the highlight.

I was very disappointed by the music section. Our greatest contribution to the second half of the twentieth century reduced to backing some teenage texting drama. I though it was rubbish frankly.

The rest was ok if a bit nuts and looking a bit cheap. I'm not sure our film industry deserved a section of it's own, unless it was just excuse for Rowan Atkinson to do a turn.

OK these things aren't my cup of tea but getting the Pistols, the NHS, Windrush and the Jarrow march in was pretty good. Apparently I missed two girls kissing which means that a lot of countries who wouldn't dream of showing gay kissing got more than they bargained for. Anyway I like this review.

How many of the Government or the Olympic Committe use the NHS I wonder.

Total hypocrisy on show there.

The NHS is arguably Britain's greatest achievement which for the last 30 years has been cynically and deliberately underfunded so that it can be privatised in small slices.

The smug mega rich elitist industrialist exploiter of workers (portrayed by Kenneth Branagh) was giving the polticians in the crowd the real boner.

James Bond is a WWII veteran. Wouldn't he be a much older man now? Someone around the same age as Prince Philip?

Fleming did not provide Bond's date of birth, but John Pearson's fictional biography of Bond, James Bond: The Authorized Biography of 007, gives Bond a birth date on 11 November 1920, while a study by John Griswold puts the date at 11 November 1921.

He was playing Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Britain's greatest ever engineer. Voted behind only Churchill as the 'Greatest Ever Briton' in that BBC nationwide poll about five or years ago.

I have a lot of trouble believing that such a tedious person is a fan of the stones....

Why wasn't James allowed into the stadium? The Queen was! Maybe he forgot his ticket?

I thought it was good silly fun and broke up the evening nicely, despite the overuse of video interludes
overall. Well, Boyle IS a filmmaker, after all. I wonder who put the Queen up to this? Quite a coupe, no doubt,
and shows that she has a sense of humor despite her straight face throughout the whole thing.

Philip's walking again, that's good.

As for the opening moments, good historical summation and theme. Got weird with the National Health routine,
but then it was redeemed by the children and Mary Poppins. The pop sequence got boring fast, so I cleaned dishes.
Missed the Olympic Flame lighting, big mistake.

Good games thus far. WTF is up with Phelps, though? Three too many times? Or was it the pot? Lulz ...

NEWSFLASH: Life in Britain is pretty shite for millions of people.

Also - The 19th century factory system created so much happiness - not really...

But you'd have to be working class raised in a poor area to get that.

Rich industrialist who used and abused the people who worked for him.

Creating a "better" British Empire.

Where all were happy and got fair shares in the fruits of their labour.

(I'm being scarcastic).

I'll shut up now... this is probably the wrong forum to be talking about social justice.
