This guy is one of the most over rated people EVER IMO

and this is why he's depressed? hmmm...i guess it might depress me if i was overrated. luckily, there's no chance of that.

I am glad Bruce spoke up about his battle. I have suffered with depression for 11 years. I friend finally pushed me to see a doc. I have never been one to feel the need for many docs or even a tylenol. But in this case my friend was right and I was very wrong. A med to adjust how my body handles serotonin and I was back on my feet and have been for a few years.

Depression and most mental illness is simply your body unable to regulate some critical chemicals. It is usually very treatable and nothing to be ashamed of, or to have some taboo attached to it. The more people talk about it, the less stigma there will be, and more people will receive the treatment they need.

...and it shows that depression is a sickness of the rich world, where people (in general ) don't have problems for eating or find water, and where people have time to thik about life, time to go to restaurant, time to go to holidays, time to read books and time to enjoy life.
i don't know if in myanmar or uganda people feels depressed. maybe angry, tired or hopeless, but not depressed.
so at the end, 60-70 years old rockstars afraid to die and to get old ( like bilions of other people) leave me quite indifferent .

Admit it. You were indifferent prior to Bruce's groundbreaking admission...
no, it is not like that. i know people who suffered of depression and i wasn't indifferent at all. i only feel closer,( and i help too), to who is suffering for (in my opinion) more serious problems and fights with dignity every day. far from me to say that i am indifferent regarding the depression. if people like bruce or, in italy, vasco rossi for example are depressed, i wonder how my neighbour who just lose the job should feel.

One of the interesting tidbits in the article is that all of the band members are on salary. There is no 'band' like we usually think, with members sharing revenue. It's Bruce and his staff.

then it should be called bruce springsteen and the e street staff. c'mon brucey.

Thats how its always been from day one. They're a backing band. The clue is in the name 'and the E Street Band'. Its not exactly something that wasnt public knowledge, in fairness. Bruce is the guy with the record deal. Not the band.

He's always had an inflated view of himself, so the arrangement makes sense.

Yeah, the fact that he was signed as a solo folk artist - has obviously nothing to do with it. eye rolling smiley

He is going to have some 5-10 hours shows, sing along, people dancing on stage, his mom sitting and telling good old Bruce stories, his terapist coming onstage helping good old Bruce in his life, some help for Obama.... halleluja.

I met a woman and she told me...."well baby...... well the blues ain't bad"...........

I mentioned Rick Springfield's memoir Late, Late at Night on another thread, because when Patti Hansen made HARD TO HOLD with Springield, Keith showed up on the set to size up this good looking pop star his wife would be spending weeks with. And Springfield was just thrilled to meet Keith.

But aside from that, running through the memoir is Springield's lifelong battle with depression. He even tried to hang himself at 17, but the rope broke. He then had to wear a turtleneck to hide the neck bruises. He later reflects that if that rope hadn't broke he wouldn't have lived to produce hits like Jessie's Girl, etc.

What does he have to be depressed about ? He has millions of people who love him. A ton of money . Jeez Bruce get a friggen grip and get over yourself. From a New york guy to a Jersey guy I would tell you to knock it off . Just sing . I don't hear any of the Stoens pissing about being depressed. If anyone has an excuse to be depressed it would be Mick Taylor for being an idiot and leaving a great thing.

The original article is from the New Yorker. One of the best pieces I've ever read on him...real eye-opening stuff (17,000 words!)

Great article, thanks Gazza. Except the line "unlike the Rolling Stones, say, who have not written a great song since the disco era...", which is the usual tired old BS spouted by the uninformed.
