Just saw this analogy-
If Michael Phelps was a country, and had his own spot on the Olympic medals
chart, he would be ahead of a lot of countries this Olympics games.... WOW!!

what about this,Max...?

If Michael Phelps was a female football player, and had her own spot on the Olympic medals chart, she would be ranked way below of a lot of countries...

well another results board.
The more the merrier, delighted to see you adding substance to the board, versus those who only post here to disrupt the topic, or trying to put the spot light on the themselves, not the Olympic games.

I will add velodrome cycling to my list of weird Olympic sports...
along with Judo and spit wad shooting (air rifle competition)

edit...
...that synchronized swimming is pretty odd too... I'll add that to the list.

and on another note... I heard that Golf will be an Olympic event in 2016 Rio, which imuho is fine.

Team GB have been truly inspirational. They are creating a legacy.

Summer 2011 in the UK was blighted by civil disturbance. Summer 2012 in the UK has been blessed with Gold.

A very good article on the greatness of Michael Phelps, particularly his astounding butterfly.

Andy Murray! Wow! Wish NBC would have shown a bit more of his celebration before cutting to commercial. I love watching the "after" emotions. Highs of the winners but also feeling the hurt makes it even more "real".

Peace,
Mr. DJA

As a lifelong tennis player myself, I'm happy to see Andy Murray win. The second and third hard fought games in the second set proved favorable and were huge in his march to victory. It's safe to say, moving forward that Murray will be winning more often in GS final matches. I definitely want to see the medal presentation. Hopefully NBC will show. If not I'll catch on YT. They somehow left us bewildered yesterday when the USA -Russia Men's Volleyball Match was abruptly departed.

He is a fantastic champion with benefitting from being so talented in a discipline
with countless events.

We,, until they figure out how to make running backwards, sideways, jumping all the way around the track ...olympics sports...he will have the advantage.
Just saying...

Something is not right when Federer loses in such a big way in three straight sets against a guy who has never won anything. I got the impression his thirst for a win wasn't that great.
That doesn't take away from Murray's win though. Congrats to him.

I'll say that the trampoline event is mind boggling. I'm not sure if it owns own category or falls under track and field. I get dizzy talking about that crazy event smileys with beer

NBC,
Look in the mirror and ask yourself how lame it is to be showing (replays) of events from yesterday on TV right now.... THESE ARE THINGS WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN.... and right now, as I type, exciting track and field events are going on, LIVE, right now... but you are holding back....waiting to show them in prime time tonight, all packaged up... ASK YOURSELF NBC!!! HOW LAME IS THAT!!!??

edit-

OK... fine... thank you... women's water polo coming on LIVE now... yeah!!! USA V Italy.

My nomination for "athlete of the 2012 Olympic games"- South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius

Track and field wasn't Pistorius' first love. He grew up playing water polo and rugby until he blew out one of his knees in a rugby match at age 16. When doctors advised him to take up running as part of his rehabilitation, it didn't take long before his sprinting talent became obvious to all. He won a 100 meters race at his school against boys with two good legs and quickly channeled his energy into running.

Pistorius' late mother Sheila made sure he never thought of himself as handicapped as a kid. In interviews with reporters in London, Pistorius said his mother was so adamant about not treating him any differently than his brother Carl that she once told him, 'Carl, you put on your shoes and Oscar you put on your legs, and that's the last I want to hear about it.' "I didn't grow up thinking I had a disability," Pistorius said. "I grew up thinking I had different shoes."

Pistorius has been known as "The Blade Runner" for years as a result of his J-shaped, carbon fiber prosthetic lower legs, but he isn't especially fond of his nickname. Asked about it by reporters in London this week, he chuckled and said, ""I don't mind it. It's not one I'd choose, but it's okay.

Pistorius clearly has some game off the track too. The New York Post reported last month that Pistorius has been seeing Anastassia Khozissova, the 33-year-old Russian supermodel who has walked for for Chanel, Prada and Ralph Lauren, among others. When Pistorius secured his berth in the 400 meters semifinals on Saturday, Khozissova succinctly tweeted, "Yesssssss!!!!!"

Not to be outdone by his girlfriend, Pistorius has done modeling work of his own. In 2011, his unusual look and compelling story caught the attention of executives at Thierry Mugler A*Men fragrances. They made him the centerpiece of an ad campaign in which his blades were dipped in liquid chrome and stylized to evoke the legs of a superhero. "We have come to a time when people must understand that the world is diverse and that there is no such thing as conventional beauty," Joël Palix, president of Clarins Fragrance Group, told the New York Times.

Finally watched the women's marathon and indeed it was a very scenic route showing off beautiful London and it's lovely landmarks.

I was also delighted to see the road blocked off from the spectators on the side the entire way. I am still pissed at that freek who ruined what would have been a Gold medal marathon for a runner in Athens 2004. After running for over 24 miles some idiot pedestrian came out of the blue and tripped him. The runner stumbled and fell... out of contention for a Gold medal... although he admirably finished the race and earned the bronze. I dont know what happened to the idiot.. but I hope he got what was coming to him.....

.... anyway.... it is good to see the course protected when it is this big of a deal and this long of a race.... cant wait to watch the men run this course again next week, lets hope it is dry.
