Any of these tracks avaliable before on Flahpoint b-sides etc. ?

'Sympathy' (in edited form) is on Flashpoint as are 'Jumpin Jack Flash' and 'Ruby Tuesday' from the following night.

The version of 'Harlem Shuffle' released as a bonus track on the 'Ruby Tuesday' live single in May 1991 also comes from 27th February.

Why did they leave out the Continental Drift intro?? The was so great in combination with Start Me Up

No idea, and a bad decision, I think. Just as they omitted the intro from LA Friday. It's part of the show and builds up the excitement.

Because a edited version is on Flashpoint already.

What I find interesting is that in the Google interview, I see the Stones playing a great version of "Paint it Black." However, it's not listed on the track list.
also it wasn't shown in the recorded "Live from Tokyo" concert that was televised on VH1 numerous times during the late 90's.

Late 90's?

You sure it was the same tour?

A show from Tokyo 1995 was also broadcast at the time.

Thanks Gazza - I think Rollin Hansie's post cleared the question. The 1990 Tokyo Show (at least one of the shows) was shown frequently on VH1 during the 90s but did not feature Paint it Black or 2000 Light Years ...as I recalled

In regards to my post above - and Keith's second frontman role he took in 1989. Actually then he finally had the profilic role Brian Jones had in the beginning, and with which he was competing of the attention with Jagger, where as Ronnie would be the 'salt of earth' man in shadows - like a young Keith. Keith loved to stood out and 'ice the cake' - think of the intro of "Paint It Black", the nylon sounds in "Ruby Tuesday", etc. Not to forget, of course, the posing he really took 'seriously' from then on.

- Doxa

Completely agree to both your post reagarding this. Keith was more or less the band leader at this point and further through the Bridges tour. In '89-90, he also seemed to keep an eye on what other guitarplayers were doing and thus learning some new licks and improving his technique. Far from a guitar hero in the 80's sense, but still...

Again, this period turned me on to the Stones and Keith became my favourite guitarplayer at this point. I certainly learned to love the earlier Stones and Keiths earlier work pretty fast after that, but as a guitarplayer, I still feel he had a peak from 89 to around 95. Probably due to his extensive playing and touring with both Winos and the Stones, and maybe because of less substances than during the 70's. Although there were some glorious moments back then too.

Keith was really sharp in 89-90 and possibly wanted to prove to the world that he and his band were still great and not just a sloppy act riding on former glory. (I guess Jagger too after failing his solo career.)He also managed to combine posing and great playing which was also a factor I really fell for. Keith was cooler than any other guitarplayer around that time, despite beeing "old". ( I was 14 in 89, and mostly listening to guitar heroes like Blackmore, Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani and the likes.)

Surprised to hear it was shown on TV in the US. However, the original Japanese TV broadcast omitted both '2000 Light Years' and 'Sympathy'. The full show was broadcast in a subsequent rerun.

If my memory is correct, 2000 Light Years From Home was planned to broadcast on 3D but it was omitted at the last minute.

2000 Light years was released in 3D as part of the Atlantic City TV show IIRC. I still have it on VHS (complete w/ vintage commercials) and the official Rolling Stones 3D glasses that were given away at 7-11.

Yep...I think its the best one. This one runs it close. From memory, I think its Cindy Mizelle who does the solo vocal on it, which was unusual.
IIRC, Lisa missed the entire Urban Jungle portion of the tour. Can't remember why though.

Thanks for the link and others with links and info. Damn I just cant listen to this, I know many iorrians like these "new format" versions but they really dont move me at all. I can see why it must have been a thrill to hear Happy again if you were there but now when I hear the "oooh well I never" and the chucky piano and clean sounding guitars or the anal picking intro of Midnight Rambler or the dramatized synth intro to SFTD I just picture Mick backstage with the sponsors. Nothing wrong with sponsors and money but this is where the only reason Mick is present is his failed solo career and a pension fund.

what ??
Listen to SFTD on Cold Steel Blue with Charlie's intro and compare it with the legit.
?? this is not the same. On COLD Charlie starts immediately the drums in a very unique approach I always loved.
It is not on the legit.
Did they edit this ? a pity
or is it from another show ?

And here we go again nagging about "the business Vegas Stones" too clean sound etc. I think it's quiet a treat to actually hear nuances in which different guitars Keith and Ron are playing. That bite in Keiths tele on SMU is refreshing imo. I feel sorry for those who misses out on good Stones music just because it isn't messy, dirty or sloppy enough. For me, I take it all! I'm placing my butt on the lawn rider now with Tokyo Dome on the iPod now to enjoy. smiling smiley

ALIVE AND ROLLING is VGP 24.2.90

STEEL WHEELS TOKYO (VGP) and COLD STEEL BLUE are 26.2.90.

SFTD on TOKYO DOME legit is not from 24.2.90. But it is totally different from the 2 above.

I don't like messy, sloppy performances but I do think the actual sound of this tour was way too slick.

The guitar playing is great, but the tone of the Tele on Start Me Up sounds like Keith is playing through some awful transistor amp. Where's the balls to the tone?
Didn't he have Boogies and a Marshall JTM45 on this tour? You'd never know it from the sound.

Also, on this tour I really dislike Keyboards playing riffs INSTEAD of the guitars.
Just listen to the beginning of Sad, Sad Sad, where's that biting guitar riff?

I have no problem with the so called "Vegas" era from around 1995 onwards, but I feel it took them a few few years to get the sound right.
The Stones should always have a raw dirty sound which was missing during 1989/1990, and also for a lot of 1994/1995.

I prefer the 1995 club shows and any strong performance from 1997 onwards over pretty much anything from this tour.

Just my opinion (running away with me)
