Continental Drift doesn't drift...it ROCKS!

I'm listening to it right now on my deck in the sunshine, just cranked.

An exceptionally good latter day effort from the Vegas Stones that stands the test of time. Can it be 23 years old?

Love it, and one of the bands only homage's to Brian.

Love comes indeed!

I'm glad you brought this up Treacle. I was thinking about it when I touched on Steel Wheels as an album in my "Baby Break It Down" topic. I shall give this tune a spin today.

I created a CD called sychelic stones and I put Continental Drift on it, a lot of the usual suspects from TSMR, Under The Radar, Moonlight Mile, Child of the Moon, Something Happened to Me Yesterday, Dandelion, We Love You etc. A great way to spend a sunny afternoon outside.

Have a good listen!

It's alright as an homage to Brian. Never considered Stones a World Music band though. It worked well as an intro on the Steel Wheels tour however.

Skippy, you have to know most of us truly embrace opposing views on this forum.

I don't happen to be one of those people. You've sullied my thread man...get off my cloud!

Just about this song for some reason. Treac, I've had it with you. Sometimes, you're just out of control, you're just too rude. Yer so...vain. You're so full of doo doo doo doo doo...

I do think the Master Musicians of Jajouka song is the greatest intro for a rock show ever. That was beyond awesome.

I think you're weakening...you're coming to the dark side. Please bring StonesTod with you or we'll never hear the end of it.

Hmmmm. Well. If I can find something that's better, which probably exists, I'll share it.

Although I do remember thinking the fire that erupted was even better. Almost singed me too.

This was very state of the art. It's funny, the Stones used to be pop leaders, or just a step behind the Beatles, and we celebrated that. Then when they would try something beyond the 2 guitars/bass/drums blues rock, they get criticized. This is one of their last truly hypnotic songs, and Brian was hypnotic in Spades.

Why don't they do this one live? Kudos for the creative aspects of this song.

Gazza is not the only one with mixed emotions, I can almost hear you sigh, his hearts for sale so he's blinded by love which is so terrifying. Stuck between a rock and a hard place so hold on to your hat, the continental drift can't be seen and it's slipping away which is sad, sad, sad. Break the spell is awesome though.

A great song on a surprisingly good come back-album. SW has an undeserved bad reputation on this forum, imo.

I have mixed emotions about Continental Drift. Somehow I think that it's not really Rolling Stones responisble for writing this song, or producing it - at all. But some kind of.....vegetarian freak.

I dont think its a particularly good album - and the sound has dated horribly, as most 80s albums have (the 'rawer' mix on the outtakes is generally more enjoyable)

However, Continental Drift, Almost Hear You Sigh and (to a slightly lesser extent) Slipping Away are superb songs that would have been lauded higher had they been released in an era where the Stones were more fashionable.

Great to see that other people are starting to realise what a great song this is....

And as has been stated before - It will in years to come be seen as an absolute Stones classic!

This has probably been posted before, but I think it deserves another run:

Probably 2019 thru 2020, as it will receive a 30 year deluxe remaster repackage.

After that unfortunately, interest will again wane.

Almost Hear You Sigh and Breakin from Keith's 1987 sessions are among the highlights of the last 25 years, RS solo and RS - all included, IMO.
