OT - Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

I recently interviewed the director of a really good documentary on the making of the album - thought some of you might find it interesting -

Saw the documentary on BBC4.

Wish you Were Here is underrated: it gets lost amongst the well-known, or notorious, Floyd albums, i.e. Dark Side and The Wall.

It holds up better than either Dark Side or The Wall. The surround mix of Wish You Were Here is a keeper.

It was considered a major disappointment when it was first released, especially coming two and a half years after DSOTM. Two and a half years between albums was an eternity back then.

I like Animals too. All really good and stand on their own IMO.

DSOTM, WYWH and Animals are the perfect trilogy. Animals might even be my favorite. I never really got into The Wall. The concept is there, but Roger forgot to write any decent music to go with it. Musically, The Wall's best moments were provided by Gilmour, and there aren't enough of them.

for me, those first four notes of Shine On are as iconic a riff as anything from that era -

Well said tatters and I couldn't agree with you more! Roger did make up for the lack of great Wall music by providing a fantastic theatrical accompaniment. Better than was done for any of the trilogy of fantastic music that we agree about. peace

As far as the Spinner interview goes, a bit like sitting down to dinner with a box of Froot Loops. It kinda tastes good but lacks substance. peace

Remember the LP cover has been wrapped originally in some black plastic sheet...
Just a gimmick or has it been for some other reason ?

I always thought it was some artistic statement about blackness or the sense of absence - FYI, I met the two cover models once at the same site at Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank - we re-shot the pair for a piece I was writing - I'll have to try and dig it up

(cue naturalush to make a snide remark... HERE)

Thanks,hbwriter...
And following this thread I should give Animals another try.
Must been 25 years ago I listened to it the last time, whereas Dark Side and WYWH got regular spinning...

PLEASE find a new obsession - I'm not worth it - really - or if you have to - write me off line to vent as not to gum up the threads here for people that like this stuff and that enjoy talking things in a civilized, productive manner. Seriously - the high road beckons. Take it. You'll feel better, I promise.

"Naw I perfer to call out total crap when I see it. If I could flush you away I would have done it..."

gee, what a nice person you are - thanks for going on the record with this smiling smiley

Such a phony - posing with the disingenuous "peace" sign off that many gag over - hell bent on doing nothing but offering snide insults and put downs, then feigning shock when someone calls you on - which of course, gets you to your name calling - "Perfect response to show what a complete idiot and jerk you are hb. Grow up fool."

nice - really adult - like a little baby getting mad - bitter, jealous, petulant - and WHINY. Here's a solution - STOP CLICKING ON MY POSTS. Most people here seem to enjoy them - you don't - so ignore them. Think you can do that?
