British Comedian Eric Sykes has passed away, aged 89.

Very sad to hear this. Eric was an absolute legend. One of the dryest but funniest comedians of my generation. Loved the man, especially in Those magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines and Monte Carlo Or Bust. Not many from the golden era of British comedy left now.

He was great as one of the investigating policemen in Theatre of Blood.

Sykes was brilliant: a marvellous ensemble cast, including Derek Guyler as Corky, and Hattie Jacques as Hattie.

Not forgetting Eric also was in the Nicole Kidman movie The Others.

Truly gifted, truly great.

He was brilliant in several almost-silent ensemble pieces of physical comedy, featuring just about every British comedian at the time, which he not only starred in by mostly wrote: look on YouTube for The Plank, It's Your Move and Mr. H is Late. I just spent a happy hour revisiting some of those: rest in peace Mr. Sykes, and thanks for all the laughter.

Brilliantly funny and much-loved man. Now sadly to be much-missed. There aren't many like him left.

Very sad news. One of the last of that generation. Loved Sykes when I was growing up in the 70's. RIP

Thanks for the laughs Eric.

He also had a hand in writing The Goon Show occasionally. A truly great British comedic talent.
