How spoiled would you have to be? Christ, the product we've got over the past year is 10 years worth. And that's before the documentary, and the 3 other promised boots, and maybe a new record and a tour of some kind. And there's the '50' book out soon, and maybe a surprise or two as we get into the Christmas buying season.

If you're disappointed because Keith can't play like it's 1964, or Mick's voice is too mannered/nasal, that Bill and Mick Taylor haven't rejoined the band for a massive world tour, culminating in a final concert in your front room, then you must constantly set yourself up for disappointment.

In fairness, there has been a lot of great stuff released in recent years.

lot of 'great' stuff?...like what for instance?....shine a light--heavily edited and overdubbed?...brussels '73?--any fan who didn't already have that eight times over is not a fan..Hampton '81?--ditto.....books?...please...reissued albums like ya-ya's with 'extras' and gussied up (and ruined) outtakes from exile and some girls?--lazy efforts indeed. no, the word 'great' gets thrown around a lot these days, like 'amazing' and 'awesome'...if you REALLY think about it HONESTLY then you will realize there has been no new music since 2005--seven years without a studio lp of new material..that's what really counts...i would love to hear some new stuff and see a big 50th blah blah blah but mick hates nostalgia, charlie does not give a crap, keith is resting on his past reputation now, and ronnie...well he has no say in the matter even after all these years. Just gimme a new album of blues and forget the rest...i don't want them to embarass themselves on tour if they can't do it anymore....you know that is what mick is REALLY concerned about....the legacy.

How can you say Mick is concerned about the legacy and hates nostalgia in the same paragraph? Although what you say does have some ring of truth to it I think the Rolling Stones can get out and play one hell of a show still.

After all It's Only Rock and Roll ! How hard could it be? With Charlies backbeat and a few blues licks by very capable Ronnie and Keith, Mick struttin his stuff, great boogie woogie piano to fill in the holes, it's just a rock show not an olympic event here.

I'm happy to see them play more intimate venues, like the early days, they can do no wrong. Screw the big arenas I was tired of that crap before it became the way of the Stones sometime in the 1980's. These guys are professionals , they can do the job of making good rock and roll, nothing to be dissapointed about. peace

Well, the TAMI show is amazing. The complete ED SULLIVAN appearances are amazing. PLUNDERED MY SOUL and PASS THE WINE are amazing. TOO YOUNG and DON'T BE A STRANGER are amazing. The GOOD recordings of Brussels, Hampton, and L.A. 75 they gave us are are amazing. (With 3 more to come). LADIES & GENTLEMEN THE ROLLING STONES is amazing. SOME GIRLS LIVE IN TEXAS is amazing. The STONES IN EXILE documentary is amazing. They're all amazingly amazing. And no true Rolling Stones fan would dispute that. (Whatever a TRUE RS fan is, and whoever gets to decide that). I stand amazingly amazed.

nostalgia and legacy are two completely different things...mick himself does not want to wallow in nostalgia and revisit past glories and be reminded of how aged he is....on the other hand he wants the band to be remembered for being the great group that it was---any musical mishaps now, such as a less-than-stellar tour, would certainly tarnish that reputation.

Lets not forget the Stones made their fame and fortune on the backs of the great American Blues artists they copied and gave tribute to. They owe it to them (if not us) to play in the TRADITION of those old blues artists. That means till they day the drop dead on stage, old, slower but with the soul and feeling built up from years of living and playing their trade.

I think Mick is getting more secure with his role as a BLUES SINGER, albiet a white skinny one from over the pond. lol He doesn't have to prove a damn thing to the great great majority of Stones fans. Keith has even been quoted as saying he will be playing Stones music like the old blues singers of America are still proudly doing. It will be an honor just to see them play and have a good time. That is MUCH more important than a fockin "tarnished" performance, whatever the hell that is. Of course these guys are getting older and like a decent human being, my expectations of them will change and be tolerant of false starts mistakes, etc. I just want them to project that they are still having a good time doing the only thing they really know how to do. What else can we expect? peace

Yes, once you make the decision to become a fan then you become vulnerable to disappointment. For me, I will get over it quickly. I might grumble for a day or two and then move on. Following the Stones has been and always will be a roller coaster ride for me. At some point though you get off and go home. That day could come as soon as July 12 for me or much later. We shall see.
Can you be any more unnecessarily dramatic? The Stones a band. How exactly does one "get off the rollercoaster and go home"? Are you going to burn your cds and records? Take down your posters above your bed? Are you going to deny their existence? Please, enlighten us!

For me it would simply mean not posting here at IORR anymore. Nothing more, nothing less.

After your (obviously upcoming) farewell thread, what will your new name here be?

The Some Girls bonus tracks to me is the Rolling Stones the way I want to hear them. It's the album I have been dreaming for. The new album can be just as good or even better. Uncle Don will see to that this time around. ABB was a little joyless, not bad, but not their best effort. They will rebound. And I loved the energy they exerted in Shine A Light. At the end they looked like fighters that had gone 15 brutal rounds with Joe Frazier in his prime.

They're not capable. It's not 1978. They will never be THOSE Stones again. They had plenty of opportunities after Some Girls to be THOSE Stones again and they never were. Besides, THEY don't care about that. Only you do - and it's a care that is totally based on... nostalgia. The time to let it go passed a long time ago. The only way the Stones could ever have something remotely close to that is to release anything in the vaults that is good, and they blew it with the Some Girls extras for the most part as well as the Exile extras. There is so much more in the vaults that Mick has decided to not give one iota of creedence to. He's STILL making bad decisions on what he thinks it 'good' (ala Dirty Work, Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, Bridges To Babylon, Forty Licks and A Bigger Bang ((a lot of)) select tracks).

Having a bad day WeLoveToPlayTheBlues? C'mon man if you are so dissatisfied why are you still posting on a fan board? For nostalgic reasons? Cheer up, the fat lady hasn't cleared her voice yet.

Are you willing to live happily in a world without The Rolling Stones? God willing I will have to buck up pretty hard to keep my head up. They have given plenty and your right I did miss ABB tour, although I bought the CD at retail price. peace

It's not that I should f off to Johnny Winter's website; I wish to hear the Stones no matter what, be it with Muddy, or without.

I like Muddy too, and love his last great hurrah on Epic. I am worried, a tad though, that his recordings with the Stones mightn't be as good as those with Winter, Margolin, Cotton, et al.

no need to worry, but these live perfs with the stones are definitely a rag-tag offering. muddy's great bands of the 60's and 70's epitomized the chicago blues sound and tradition like no others...much like miles' two great quintets did for hard bop in the 50's and 60's.

the tour and albums with johnny winter didn't really add to that legacy, imo...but they didn't hurt it, either....

by this date in '81, muddy had fired his great band, of course...and muddy himself as a performer was in serious decline...
muddy was 66 in 1981, younger than keith is today sad smiley

Bridges To Babylon is one of the greatest Stones albums ever in my opinion. It has three of their greatest songs ever on it. For starters.

The Some Girls bonus tracks to me is the Rolling Stones the way I want to hear them. It's the album I have been dreaming for. The new album can be just as good or even better.

What new LP? The one they will release in 2013. That one.

The new album can be just as good or even better. Uncle Don will see to that this time around.

Uh, I'm hoping not. Isn't Don Was the Voodoo Lounge producer? We don't need retro crap. They need to break out of their middle age calcification and get some good sidemen and maybe Jack White to produce. They need a different result is what they need. They can't do anything about their sub-par bass unless Wyman agrees to return for the final LP. A DIFFERENT piano player. Some interesting horns. Bend the pop scene through the Stones prism, like they used to. It doesn't have to be the failed experiments of BTB, but there's lots of interesting styles and sounds out there to bring to a Rolling Stones record. No more Chuck Berry riff throwaways!

mick hates nostalgia, charlie does not give a crap, keith is resting on his past reputation now, and ronnie...well he has no say in the matter even after all these years.

you know that is what mick is REALLY concerned about....the legacy.

How can you say Mick is concerned about the legacy and hates nostalgia in the same paragraph? Although what you say does have some ring of truth to it I think the Rolling Stones can get out and play one hell of a show still.

After all It's Only Rock and Roll ! How hard could it be?

Ehhhhhhh. Did you you not see Shine A Light or The Biggest Bang or any shows on the A Bigger Bang tour? Obviously not.

I saw Shine A Light and attended a live show on ABB and thought they sounded fantastic. The audience was screaming their guts out in approval. What show/shows did you attend? Maybe we can get someone else to "weigh in" on the show/shows you attended. A second opinion.

They have given plenty and your right I did miss ABB tour, although I bought the CD at retail price. peace

It's useless. He shows no enthusiasm for the Stones as they exist today, but will probably argue he is still a fan. No doubt he was a fan at one time. By definition you can make a strong argument that he is currently not a fan of the band, but why bother. The Stones will tour, they will release a new album, and his voice (and the voices of others like him) will be drowned out once the Stones get rolling again.

Just gimme a new album of blues and forget the rest...i don't want them to embarass themselves on tour if they can't do it anymore....you know that is what mick is REALLY concerned about....the legacy.
the ft. worth 78 blu-ray is one of their greatest releases ever, just spectacular in every single way, an a+, a 100 out of 100.

Absolutely!
