I saw the Blasters in a bar in Santa Barbara, obviously a long time ago. Talk about a great bar band! Whew! What a memorable, fun, fun night that was!

His brother Dave said he's on the mend and things are looking up. I think the "heart attack" report may be off..

REGARDING PHIL ALVIN...I received the following from John Bazz at @12:30pm European Standard Time:

Phil is recovering nicely and the outlook is very good. Going to see him in a few minutes. Not sure what caused the [throat] swelling in the first place, but the hospital is running tests and needs as much as 48 hours to get results.

and from Dave..
Long story short: After a rough couple of days, my brother Phil (truly one bad stud) is recovering slowly but steadily and is in excellent medical hands in Spain. Sincere thanks to all of you who have been sending him positive thoughts, vibes, prayers, non-prayers, best wishes, jokes, memories, etc. It means a lot to Phil, our family and me. Thank you.

Yes I read Dave Alvin comment on facebook minutes ago. When I said heart attacked is beacause a friend of mine his wife working at the Hospital de la Fe in Valenicia, she is nurse, and told him was a heart attacked at that time. I asked him today, she is working now at the hospital, the danger is out right now!
you can watch one of last videos in Spaina few days before he went to the hospital at the next link, [dirtyrock.eu]

Thats great! Phil is (in my opinion) one of the last of that breed of "great blues shouters". I first met Dave in Ft Worth 2008 2 weeks after losing my brother. He was very kind and took the time to talk to me for a good while. He told me he wouldnt know what he would do without his brother (and he had just lost his 'musical" brother Chris Gaffney). He also dedicated "Somewhere In Time" to me when he performed it. Dave is truly one of those kind and caring artists thats so rare..

FYI

If by chance your friend ever gets a job in the USA...be aware that this kind of blabbing can get a health care worker in serious trouble.

Give me a break loog droog!!
Don't know if you are joking or whatever, but come on!
This friend is not getting into the room or whatever.
I lived in US for a while and I know why that country is big jail, because every step you do there are a LAW many of them stupidities.
I am just letting the people know this amazing musician is finner than previous days.

Dave Alvin on Facebook:
For all of you who've been asking, here's a short version of my brother Phil's situation: My brother did NOT have a heart attack and he is NOT in a coma. Phil had trouble breathing after a performance in Valencia, Spain last week. He was taken to a hospital where an emergency tracheotomy was performed so he could breathe. Thankfully, his vocal chords were left untouched. The reason for his breathing difficulty is still being determined and he is still in ICU but Phil IS RECOVERING slowly and surely. The Blasters are there with him and family members and friends are on the way. Sincere heartfelt thanks from me to all of you for all of your support through this rough time. Here's Big Joe Turner, Phil and my favorite vocalist, singing Kansas City style while Otis Rush and his pals play the blues Chicago style.

***PHIL ALVIN UPDATE*** (today, from John Bazz/@5:46pm Central Europe Time):

We're here [Spain] w/ Phil until Thursday. His cousin Paul flew in yesterday and is staying with Phil until he's released and is probably going to fly back to LA with him too.

Today Phil is walking, talking and breathing on his own. Kinda wish he was silent again, as he has turned into a real task master and has us all jumping through hoops!
