Yeah, I've heard Van is stightly strange, sometimes rude and super serious....that can be a funny combination. Her bass player was obviously not so amused. peace

I don't think Slighty strange is the right word...I love the guy for what he did............but he is very strange he couldn't keep up a band for 6 months ..........as we say in Holland "wispelturig"

I have heard that Van openly flosses in restaurants, that he buys suits a size too small, and that he deleted his duet album with Linda Gail Lewis after she declined his advances.

So contrary is the man that even his best albums remain deleted, and have never been remastered, reissued with extra tracks. I refer to St Dominic's Preview and to Irish Heartbeat. I think this is due to some perceived slight, some grudge that he may have.

Bluesinc,

The first duet album was deleted after a year: this was due to Linda Gail rejecting Van's advances. Though, if you ask me, it should have been deleted after a week, as it wasn't the best album that both artists recorded. Linda did a far better duets album with her brother, Jerry Lee, in 1969.

There wasn't a second album, as Linda played piano on some tracks, and Van had the piano track removed. A case in point was Just Like Greta on Magic Time. Initially, this had Linda on it, but Van then went and had her parts removed.

Thanks for the vid, Send it to me. Great to see Suzanne Vega again. I had almost forgot about her. Van is great but he must suffer from a social disorder of sorts I'm afraid.

I think he's always had it, be it refusing to play gigs for a long time, anti social behaviour in the true sense since Them days, and general all round pettiness with grudges and slights magnified to the nth degree.

I still love his music though.

I read somewhere that his crew hates him so much they spit in his drinks. I remember reading the reviews when he came to Constitution Hall in DC to perform songs from Astral Weeks. He was disdainful of the audience, verbally abused his band and crew, and just generally behaved like an @#$%&.

That would be no surprise, although I think Keith Richards went one better by providing Roy Buchanan with some organic juice of his own.

My pleasure! She's been making wonderful music for over 25 years and never got her due recognition. Anyone that needs to do catch up should immediately buy a copy of Retrospective or Tried And True, her compilation albums.

I remember seein Van years ago wearin a three piece suit hat and shades at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fess. It was at one of the tents, he was off to the side of the stage watchin a cajun/zydeco band and it must have been a hundred dregrees. Guess he was tryin not to be noticed.
