Thief In The Night

This song just sticks with me. I think it will stand the test of time. I consider it a classic for the latter day Stones. One of Keith's better songs.

Great song from Keith. Like Tom Waits, Keith likes to create "atmospheric" songs. Those peculiar songs establish an ambience, it's like stepping in a room designed by Keith.
Rock and roll,

What was difficult to understand was the album sequencing of Thief in the Night, a slow Keith ballad, followed by another slow Keith ballad How Can I Stop. It was hard to appreciate either in this context. It was like 12 minutes of fog at the end of what was not a bad album.

That's hilarious. It's a GREAT way to end a so-so album. Two killer Keith tunes like that in a row, with one of the best ever as the LP closer? Right on. It gave me hope for more good Keith songs like that. Alas, there have been none.

One of the greatest Stones songs ever, in my opinion, not just for latter day Stones.

That was an idea by Don Was he told in an interview. It was a compromise cause Jagger wouldn`t accept three Keith - songs on an album. But he accepted a long ending without song seperation. (i like these little stories).

Yes those two songs at the end MAKE that album. The sound he managed to get on these was so atmospheric and the songs will always rank as some of the best the stones ever did for me. If Keith could produce a whole album of that quality on his own then it would soften the blow if the stones never recorded again. However his contributions to ABB blew that hope out of the water.

What's wrong with his, uh, contributions on ABB?

Come on, bare your breasts

I was just disappointed with the album. This place is empty was good but not anywhere near thief or how can I stop. Infamy was a disappointment. Then there's the question of how much he contributed to the album in general.

Yes, because Might As Well Get Juiced and Gunface were such brilliant songs Mick put on anyway. The LP had to have some quality on it - and it's Keith's THREE songs that give it a lot more quality than it would without them.

I think someone once flattered Keith and said "You should write ballads" and he took it literally. Frankly I don't think they fit a stadium Stones show.
I would have cut out that 2-songs Keith interlude long ago. They do nothing to the show.

I kind of agree with the magazine interviewer who asked Mick about BRIDGES, "Isn't three Keith songs too much of a good thing?"

JAGGER: "You should tell Keith that." [subtext: "You f*ckin' pussy. Are you afraid of Keith's knives?"]

They certainly didn't hit a home run with ABB, more like a single in my book. I don't think they struck out like many think but it wasn't their best effort.
