Bluzdude has it right. This thread is not political or should not be political. If any of you got the highest civilian award from the leader of your countries you'd piss your pants with excitement weather you agreed with him or not.

Everything is politics, Slew. Even awards to elderly men with dark glasses...

It's true the thread is not political - nor should be political. The President in the U.S. has a role as Head of State that is separate from his political role as head of the executive branch of the federal government. Presidents of both parties give out medals and awards. It's part of what presidents do. We should be able to separate these functions enough to appreciate a president (even one we didn't vote for) giving an award to a deserving recipient.

What the Obama critics in the U.S. aren't aware of is the fact that McCain, Bush or any other Republican recieved very little support in Europe. Even most right-wingers over here supported Obama. So from a geopolitical standpoint a Republican president is always a gamble and a risk. Look what Bush JR managed to do to the world community during his reign. Think of that before you bash Obama.

Now from a very non-political perspective, Obama loves music,especially the blues, and R&B and so he is always ready to honor musicians and encourage the support of their art. Isn't it refreshing to have the most powerful man on the planet love and support our favorite thing, music!? I think the musicians like hanging out with him too....from McCartney to Bono to Mick, Buddy Guy, Beck, etc...very cool guy!

Make of it what you will. I had no political motive in posting it. It's just a Dylan lyric I could think of that mentions the President of the United States. I thought it would be interesting to post in this thread that concerns the POTUS and Dylan.
