To my ears this song is as dull as dishwater and contributes to ABB being such a disappointment overall.

ABB is a great work. This album in 1984 -85 surely could have been much more appreciated

It doesn't even sound like a Rolling Stones record.

EXACTLY!! Keith's fingerprints are nowhere to be found. This sounds like a leftover from Dogshit in the Doorway.

Most Keith Richards fans don't really want to admit how involved he was with a bigger bang. For example the verse structure if "streets if love" bears a striking resemblance to "love us strong." Sure it's clear Keith was writing it, and I'm sure it's obvious to you stone's geniuses but it's just so aweful that I'm giving all the credit to Mick! All Mick!

Bookended by the excrement of Undercover (excepting the title track) and the coming apart at the seams of Dirty Work? Low standards, but you might have a point.

Ha! Not one of you could tell me the last single you bought! How do you expect the Rolling Stones to have a hit record?!

People's lack of appreciation for UC never ceases to amaze me. It contains their most fully realized reggae track, their most vicious funk rock workout and just some great rock n roll-"She Was Hot", "All The Way Down," and "Too Tough (a reworked Cellophane Trousers). It's edgy, experimental, is full of great Wood/Richards guitar interplay and holds up well nearly three decades later.

Arrghhh... this is what happens when Keith lets Mick run the show and indulge in whatever pop drivel comes into his head. To my ears this song is as dull as dishwater and contributes to ABB being such a disappointment overall. But this video is easy on the eyes!

Good post. Undercover is an under recognized gem. The relative commercial failure seems to have sent Jagger and consequently the Stones on a different arc - one that I have liked a lot less. The fractious critical appeal of Undercover seems to have informed Jagger that a less creative but broader portfolio approach to creating an album is more favorable to the band's commercial success. No wonder everything since then has been formulaic.

So, in general, A BIGGER BANG should not have been made.
And yet there is DIRTY WORK?
Ha ha. Gimme A BIGGER BANG anyday.
Minus a few songs, of course.

Excellent post, wanderingspirit66 ... agree entirely with what you wrote except for the "everything" part ... IMO, there have been some non-formulaic masterpieces amidst the dross, such as "Thief in the Night" and "Laugh, I Nearly Died".

First-rate song. I like how the guitar line follows Mick's vocal during the "baby, baby" sections.
