Actually he was involved. The player who was offside assisted to the goal scorer. He was able to take the ball and pass to the scorer because he was offside. He was offside, he touched the ball - free kick for the opponent, no disussion about it.

Here is one thing I have learned about football: The better ranked team is often benefited from the referee. So big teams like Spain and Germany has an advantage there. Maybe it has to do with psychology of some sorts?

I suppose 24 teams mightn't be bad in terms of letting teams who don't often get a chance in these tournaments but if they really wanted to shake up the line-up it would make more sense to just not seed the qualifying draw so rigidly. So it's pretty obvious that this is for money. We all saw how abject Ireland were - who wants another 8 teams of that quality?

And how would 24 teams even work? Six groups of four? That doesn't work. Four groups of six? I don't get it.

Six groups of four....with the best four third placed teams qualifying for the knockout phase. Same as what was used in the World Cups of 1990 and 1994.

AWFUL system which only encourages teams to play for draws.

In the first game against England there was a special rule.

The rule was that no French player could be booked regardless of what he did (to Andy Carrol mostly).

Soccer fan dies after 11 all-nighters

A die-hard Chinese fan of England's soccer team died at home in Changsha, Central China's Hunan province, on June 19, 2012,
after 11 nights of watching games, since the start of Euro 2012.

The 26-year-old man was healthy and fit, and was the main force on his college soccer team. He continued to play after graduation.

The man watched the match between Italy and Ireland, and drank a lot of beer with his friends in a bar until 5 am on June 19, before he returned home to sleep,
from which he never woke up. His mother found him on the bed when she tried waking him up for an evening meal on June 20.

Dr Liu Zhiling said multiple factors led to the man's death, including prolonged sleep deprivation, massive amounts of beer, a bath after drinking as well as a low indoor temperature.
Cause of death was low blood sugar and slow blood circulation.
