If Portugal wins it won't do with a draw for Denmark. As I understand Holland has to win with two goals against Portugal. But if Denmark takes a point from Germany they (Holland) are out anyway.

Although that may have been discussed here before but how cool it must be for Jack white to have stadiums full of soccer fans chanting the riff of a tune he has written years ago; I'm talking about "Seven nation Army". I heard it for the first time a couple of days ago while watching Germany-Netherlands.Somebody knows how it started?
Rock and roll,

Hi rollmops (german?),
the riff of Seven Nation Army has become an almost "traditional" football chant, at least here in Dortmund! I think it was "born" back in 2006 during the wordl cup. Even my 4year old son runs through our garden, singing "deen, denn denn denn denn, deen, dé"!
FBC - ole, ole!
I like the singing by the Irish, the Czechs and by whoever. But what I really disgust is the German 'Sieg' yell. Especially the way they do it. Typically German. One always thinks they'll add the 'Heil' as well. Fortunately they never do. But that repeated yell has something threatening to me.
. Nationalism/Narzism in any way isn´t tolerated in german football stadiums at all ... otherwise I wouldn´t go there!

Hi Kleermarker,
yes, it sounds martial, but has nothing to do with nationalism in any way. "Sieg" is a common fan-yell in the bundesliga. Usually there is a little bit of clapping or drumming before everyone yells "sieg" ("bum, bum, bummbummbummbummbumm - SIEG". Nationalism/Narzism in any way isn´t tolerated in german football stadiums at all ... otherwise I wouldn´t go there!
I hope the dutch will win this evening! And I hope "we" will beat the Danish ....

I know rationally Muenke, but it doesn't feel good to me personally. Let the Germans also sing. I would love to hear a good Schlager during the match

I think Premier League is the only big european league that uses goal difference as second factor. There is also strange rule in Euro and not many people know about it: imagine two teams finished group stage with the same amount of points and exactly the same goal difference and the result between these teams was a draw. If they played against each other in first or second round then FIFA World Ranking decides. But if they play in the last round there is penalty shootout after tie game.

When did they change the rules in Euro/World Cup tournaments so that 'head to head' results take preference over goal difference (I know they use this system in some European leagues such as La Liga).
In previous tournaments, Russia would have qualified in second place instead of Greece.
It also means - from what I can see - that France are pretty sure to qualify for the quarter finals as Ukraine cant finish ahead of them if they're level on points and only either Ukraine or England can finish ahead of them (but not both).
The only way they cant would be if they lose to Sweden by a significantly higher margin (2 goals) than the Ukraine beat England by.

Those Portugueses - just terrible. One just could wait for a Danish goal.

That is a terrible mistake by the Dutch central 'defence'.
All in all Holland was miserable. I've never seen them play as badly as tonight. In one word: terrible. Portugal didn't have a any problem after the first goal Holland scored: they could have won with 5 or 6 against 1.
I've watched the comments on Dutch TV on the public and commercial channel and everyone was stupefied. Conclusion: there's something rotten in the team of Orange. Gregory van der Wiel, right wing defender, said he had big problems with other players. So the atmosphere must have been terrible too. All others said the same, but - like politicians - between the lines.
Anyway: I've predicted one out of four well for the quarter finals: Portugal.
I'm curious how many will remain. Otherwise it's prediction game over for me as well.

I get your point, as I lived and feel the same way with our French Team during let's say 4 years (at least)
with the miserable team & trainer that we got and the image that we had shown to the World from 2006 to 2011...
The highlight of this nightmare has been the last Worldcup. We have won the price of " The Worst Great Team in a World Cup ever ".
Every dutch player I've seen tonight think for himself, no team spirit at all,
when a team lose that, it's over...
