Congrats to Mike Silver Dagger, the undisputed winner of our Iorr EK Pool, with 289 points!

He's followed by Bard Dandy Powderman and Jorden Verwer (don't know his nickname here).

And poor Sici from Italy still carries The Lantern.

It was fun. Thanks to Hansie for organizing the EK Pool here on Iorr.

Thanks kleer. Was a pleasure chatting with all you guys over one of our other passions.

Great thread.

As a possible final review....

NY Times : Call them what you like: the Spanish Armada, La Roja or simply the best national team in the history of soccer.

Critics become stupid and empty. This was the classic Spain, inspired attacking, precise passes and impregnable defense. A gold era in international soccer.

L’Equipe: “History is written in spanish”.
Spain entered in History winning and unprecedented 3 in-a-row championship"

Bild: “Congratulations Spain! You are the best in the world”

Daily Mail: “Simply the best”

Extraordinaire Spain, who has crushed the critics arised at the beggining of the tournament and makes history with this magnificient Eurocup winning vs Italy”

The Guardian (UK): Reign of Spain goes on as Italy trail in their stardust (...) In the end, Spain were the best team in Euro 2012 by a considerable distance.

Independendent.ie: Superb Spain trampled all over those boring jibes and marched straight into the history books with a magnificent Euro 2012 final victory over Italy in Kiev.

The Guardian: " Boring Spain? The debate is so ridiculous that it should be put in a box so that it does not bother us anymore”.

The Sun: "Well...who is able to question this?".
Will we ever be able to compete with the genius of Spain?
Best in the world? You better believe it!

Clarín: “Spain crushed Italy and wins another title in a brilliant circle”.

Globoesporte: “Spain shows who rules in Europe”
The european and world hegemony has an owner. The same than 4 years ago. Spain evidences that it has no enemy at the present.

A Bola: "History"

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Bitter tear drops”. Spain keeps on being the Champion and Italy is torn apart.

Sky.it: “Italy collapses”. Italy lost in the end. There is no use in denying it. Spain won Prandelli's team and wins an historic 3 in-a-row championship".

For me The Match of this EK was Germany-Italy.

Good for you, but I needed almost one Bottle of Whiskey after that match.

Seems a good medicine to me. I also had preferred a final Spain-Germany.
The Italians seemed too tired and mentally already 'satisfied' to have reached the final.

Against Germany, Spain would have had much more problems to win.

Both coaches (Löw and Prandelli) have made big mistakes during their last EK 2012-match. Del Bosque had his finest hour during the final by choosing David Silva.

Congratulations to Spain. I think that every coach from any national team in the world has no idea how to beat this Spanish team. They remind me of Michael Schumacher when he was driving for Ferrari. Before the race started, it was clear who would win. Well, all the teams have two years to figure out a way how to win from Spain. Good luck.

I've already given them the recipe, Hansie. Now they must find out themselves. It's not too difficult. They only need quite some great technical players.

Absolutely a great victory for Silver Dagger. No doubt about it. Congratulations to him indeed.
Thanks kleermaker. Yes, it was fun. Maybe something to repeat in 2 years for the Worldchampionship.

Absolutely, as for me. It was a very nice extra to the tournament. Maybe then more people like to join in too.

Ah, the sport media! All those big words wouldn't have been written if Croatia had been treated properly by the ref or if Portugal had won the penalty shoot out, which is a lottery as we all know. The first time since ? that Spain has scored more than one goal during the match (edit: oops, I forgot their score against the brave Irishmen). But they have an outstanding goalkeeper!

Pity we couldn't all go out for a few beers afterwards. Perhaps at the next Stones show!!!

I am still looking for a "how did I do" page on EKPoultje. How did my predictions compare with the actual results, and how many points did I score with each game.

There isn't smiling smiley
You can check your predictions and compare them with the actual results of the matches.
How many points could have been earned for each phase you can find under "the game".

A good choice or a bad one?

His first attempt during 2000-2001 was a failure. His last season with Bayern wasn't successful, his return to Ajax recently was a big mistake, his relationship with the press has always been very bad, his iron fist works with young, inexperienced players, but does it also work with 'stars'?

Doubts, doubts, doubts.

First thing is that he should realize that being coach of a national team is a totally different job from being a regular club coach.

Maybe the enemy could be Fuentes (If FIFA doesn't pay him to be quiet).
I read Tyler Hamilton's book published today, citation - "Fuentes: If I one day tell everything, Spain will be stripped its World Cup titles etc. - they were my "doping-customers"".
No wonder, they had so much energy in the end.....

Dammit, as a Finnish football fan, there are no many moments to be proud of our national team, but tonight it was one... Jeez, good ole "winter war spirit": the superior Red Army is coming over, and our guys just DEFEND DEFEND DEFEND - and get a nice draw... thumbs up smiley

Well, I suppose French football fans are also rather satisfied with the result. But all the best to Spain - you are still the best. smileys with beer
