Frankly, Holland did not play very well but we also have to take into account that Portugal played quite well. Some seem to forget it.
You can't always blame a team that loses a game just because it loses it.
I was quite impressed by the game level of Portugal that plays better and better.

Tonight is Group C turn. There's gonna be a lot of tension. Italy must absolutely beat Ireland to qualify. Spain should be very careful with Croatia. I see Spain and Italy for the quarter finals

The Italians are the most wise guys ever...they are very dangerous especially when nobody cares about them...they score at the last minute of a match...as always,...
a bit like Sara Errani o Francesca Schiavone at tennis...or the Argentinians at rugby...

Congratulations for Portugal and Germany. They rightfully entered the quarter finals.

The Dutch team was operating very poorly. Whenever they had the ball, the game slowed down
to a nervebreaking pace. They never had a clue what to do with the ball. The only player that
came with creative ideas was Wesley Sneijder. But all his great passes were useless, since
they landed at players whose only ability seemed to be to spoil a chance.

I am glad we are redeemed from suffering any longer with these powerless players. Memories
of the French team do spring to mind. We have two years to build a new team for the WC.

I want to get lost in your rock 'n roll and drift away

I read that Robben several times yelled "Shut up" (in Dutch: Hou je bek) during the match to his coach Van Marwijk when he said that Robben also had to defend. Robben thinks he's too good to defend and humiliates his coach. Van Marwijk should have taken him out. Besides he also played very badly. These guys thought they are better than they are. But they didn't even have a proper condition. Then you better stay home or go golfing. Anyway, we'll get a new coach for the national team. Thanks Van Marwijk and goodbye. Hopefully a new one will try it with some new players.

Ronald Koeman, successful with Feyenoord Rotterdam last season (2nd place, behind champion Ajax). Also 78 times international and winner of the EK 88. A strong guy.

A great defender who also was able to come up and start an offensive. A mighty pass in his feet and a great free kick as well. One of the big four of a great generation (Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Koeman). He won everything except the WC. Won the CL (Europe Cup 1) with Barcelona and scored the only goal during the final. He also was a great midfielder (playing for Ajax).

I'm sure Robben wouldn't think of shouting Shut up! to him any second. And also important: a good golfer (12 handicaps) smiling smiley.

Fired from Valencia after two horrendous matches against norwegian team Rosenborg in 2008.

He must have re-built his career, though.

And no one did free kicks like Ronald Koeman! With a different technique (using the inside of the foot) he could score from 30-35 meters. Great player.

NICOS, you're right. I've never understood that rule. As a bondscoach I would demand my players to have sex before the game, much sex. Or no sex at all and lots of beautiful, seducing naked women at the side of the goal of the opponent.

And for the (statistically) two homosexual players, two men as well.

I think every coach at this level is overrated and overpaid. Many teams would do better without a coach. And all these ridiculous expensive suits - it's a football game not a fashion parade.
Give them a tracksuit each. Free to keep after the tournament!

might cause some trouble for the security staff to keep linesmen, opponent goalie and fans under control...

France didn't have coach after Zidane left in 2006 till Laurent Blanc was hired in 2010. They didn't have good time then winking smiley

Indeed they had a coach !
The coach who didn't coach.
and the players who didn't played.

On Dutch TV they say that when Spain versus Croatia ends in a draw with each 2 goals or more, then Italy is out, no matter about the result of Italy versus Ireland. I cannot find any rule about this.

Edit: I got it. Tie-breaking criteria #3. Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);

A Croat totaly free with the goalie after a perfect pass. How could he miss the header?

Re: OT: Euro 2012
Posted by: Stoneage ()

Croatia must score otherwise they're out. Somehow I don't think it's gonna happen. 0-0 or 1-0 to Spain the most probable result.

Re: OT: Euro 2012

Croatia was near the quarter finales (which I had predicted), but Spain scored their goal and Ireland couldn't make a fist against Italy. Thus far I've predicted two quarter finalists just. Not very well. It will be three at maximum, if France qualifies. So go for it froggies!

Re: OT: Euro 2012

The Croats were denied two clear penalties. It's a problem that the big teams always are benefited from the referees. Spain were lucky.

Absolutely. And that header should have been a goal, then Spain would have been out too.
