The heroes of the day are:

Mario Balotelli - his brain is generating random decisions
Fernando Torres - two years and still constant shape, impressive

Penalty can't be given when player has his hands in natural positions.

There is no such rule in the referree handbook

True, szef. And Torres miss is out of sheer arrogance. He had a totaly free player to his right which he ignored and instead went for the spectacular goal.

Sure there isn't. The rule says that players can't use their hands intentionally and referee has to decide if contact was intentional or not. The position of player's hand is one of the conditions he has to consider to decide.

Yes, but the truth is that Spain played better with striker on the field. Maybe he will do better next time, if not Negredo or Llorente should play. They will try to score, Silva, Fabregas, Iniesta attack did to many passes instead of shooting.

On the bad behavior by European fans front,

UEFA promised zero tolerance for breaking rules at Euro 2012 and now has acted against three of the 16 competing nations. Croatia likely will follow after a firework was thrown on the field from a section containing its fans, and delayed the restart after Jelavic's goal.

Germany fans threw crumpled paper balls at Portugal players during a 1-0 victory Saturday in Lviv. Ukraine.

"The German Football Association (DFcool smiley is charged with the throwing of missiles by its supporters," UEFA said in a statement. "The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) faces proceedings for a delayed kickoff to the second half."

Both teams face financial penalties when UEFA reviews the cases Thursday.
Russia's football federation warned fans that hooliganism could cost the team points on Wednesday when UEFA hears its case.

Video emerged Saturday of Russia fans attacking stadium stewards in Wroclaw after beating the Czech Republic 4-1 victory on Friday. The Football Union of Russia called on its traveling fans to "Respect yourself, your home and your team."
Federation president Sergei Fursenko and team coach Dick Advocaat, who is Dutch, joined a monthly vigil honoring late Poland president Lech Kaczynski. The symbolic gesture came amid ongoing tensions between Poland and Russia based on a difficult history of war and occupation, and the aftermath of the plane crash.
Poland and Russia play in Warsaw on Tuesday in potentially the most hostile atmosphere of the three-week event.

UEFA is also investigating reports by anti-racism monitors of abuse directed by Russian fans at Czech defender Theodor Gebre Selassie, who is black.
Selassie told The Associated Press on Sunday that he noticed the insults aimed at him.

"It was nothing extreme. I've experienced much worse," said the 25-year-old defender, whose father is Ethiopian.

there should have been penalty cos the arms of the Danish defender were not stuck to his body.
to me, there is no doubt.

Ireland-Croatia 1-2. Though imo offside. The Croatians became stronger and stronger, without creating much chances.

The pass came from an opponent...

I enjoyed the game. Was away for the weekend, and catched the two first games on the radio.

Sorry about the Dutch's loss, kleermaker. Denmark was the reason Norway isn't participating, so I was cheering for your team.

Yes, but at the moment of the pass it already was offside. Difficult situation.

True, but the referee can't blow the whistle before the ball is significantly on its way to the receiver in offside position, and it wasn't in this case - because it changed direction before it was halfway there smiling smiley

That's what I meant. So it was offside. And if it's offside, the referee must use his whistle immediately and then follows a free kick and no second pass, let alone a goal. So it is quite simple and not difficult at all (if I'm allowed to counter my pool captain).

Silver Dagger is leading in the pool. But what's happened with him? Hansie, how many crates Oranje Boom beer did you send him? We've nothing heard of him ever since. It's becoming worrying now. Hey Silver, were are you. Wasn't it you who started this thread anyway? Please say something.

btw: I got my first points: even four. The red lantern isn't mine anymore (thus far).

Kleermaker, if you read the referee blog Arena 1981 sent you will find out why it wasn't considered offside.

Stoneage, watch the fourth video on this site. It still works. No doubt: offside in first instance. I don't care about the opinions of referees. They protect each other of course (mostly). But I'm sure I'm right here.

Watch especially the 12th second. That's offside, even if the ball doesn't reach on of the two strikers in offside position.
