I personally didn't even know they were touring. To me, this just seems stupid as I don't think anyone would care about them without Michael. Also, not that they might be doing it for this reason, but I wouldn't be surprised if the plan behind the scenes was to make some money knowing people will be wondering how they do it without Michael. Thats all just in my mind, but I would be very surprised if they didn't think at all that they could make some money off people wanting a Michael Jackson outlet.

Here ya go.

And there went Jermaine's chance at a huge mega hit.

Radio across the dial just couldn't get enough of it as it went into heavy rotation for a few days, and then Michael's people decided he was "overexposed" and the song disappeared like a ship into the Twilight Zone...

Yeah, seem to recall that this tune was hot in July/August '84 for a bit, then POOF, disappeared. Not that I was into the Jacksons, but this tune was unavoidable for a stretch. Michael owned the airwaves......even the rock stations......even if it meant making fun of him......he was the MO at that time.

Hey if they want to tour, fine. But to call themselves the Jackson 5 without MJ and charge top dollar, no dice!

No.....

Hey, I just saw the Temptations and the Four Tops. Each group had one original member, and the place was nearly packed. We're talking four of the original Jackson 5 here, and it's their first tour since '84. I'm not saying I'm going or that it's gonna be a good show, but I am surprised it's such a non-event.

Yeah, but just Jacko alone would have sold out also...Jackson Five were Michael Jackson with dancers...

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield...

They haven't called themselves the Jackson 5 since they left Motown in the 70's. Motown held the rights to the name, so when they signed with CBS they became The Jacksons.

Eight shows (out of 21) now cancelled. Apparently, it's because they needed the extra time to finish their new album (the one they've been promising for 20 years) so they can perform it on tour.

THE JACKSONS UNITY TOUR
New Album Is the Cause
of Concert Cancellations

The Jacksons don't want to put the cart before the horse, so the group has cancelled their first two concerts because they've been busy recording their new album ... TMZ has learned.

The group announced this week they are canceling shows in Louisville and Cincinnati, which a rep for the band chalked up to "scheduling conflicts."

But a source close to the Jacksons tells TMZ the brothers (Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Tito) want to finish their studio album before they hit the road so they can perform the new tracks on tour.

We're told the Jacksons want to make up the missed dates, but nothing is planned so far.

The tour is scheduled to (probably) kick off on June 20 in Rama, ON, Canada.

Scheduling conflicts. It's true. The audience all had to be somewhere else that night.

The Motown material was always the best, even for Michael (as a solo artist). The Jackson Five (four...) are as much entitled to that material as Michael was. They can't live of Michael anymore so why not go on tour and make a living for themselves. I guess their audience (if they find one...) is going to be an older one than Michael's. An audience that appreciates Motown classics.

I don't get all the schadenfreude over the cancelled shows.

If the Four Tops could go on and perform without Levi Stubbs, then why make such a big deal over this?

People that buy tickets to see the Jacksons are at least aware that they are seeing a show that does not include Michael.

And you've got more original members on stage than you'll find at at a Temptations show.

Or even a Who concert.

I think there is a serious need for a Michael Jackson hologram for this tour.

You ever try to set the hair of a hologram on fire? It's not so easy.

The deserve the right to make a living, but even if the tour is a reasonable success, they will lose $ just on their overhead. Typical of these type acts is to have too many people traveling with them and everyone thinks they are the tour manager...a real pleasure to deal with if you are a promoter or building manager.

A pretty good review from last night's show .... except for the "sitting on stools and chatting to each other" part.

A nice set list and could be a fun night out.

You cannot compare the two, but look at all the J5 played in 95 minutes. I saw Buddy Guy last week and he played 9 songs in 95 minutes. Fun, but I felt hosed again by Mr. Guy.
